1. please explain how that was worse
from that article, it seems that case wasn't as bad and the congressman went on to accomplish good things.

2. Worse because...?
Because we presume Studds actually had sex with that page, and that Foley never progressed beyond hot chat?

3. Was it, really? Diddling minors is always bad, no matter who does it.
But I don't recall that this guy made such a HUGH!1!! deal of being a super-moral family values kinda guy, unlike (now former) Congressman Foley.

4. He actually "did the act"...
as I recall the young man claimed it was consensual, but he was only 17 or 18?

One thing about Foley though, he was involved in legislation against pedophilia. I don't think Studds ever was, but I could be wrong.

18. He was 27 in '83
It happened in '73, the censure was 10 years later when the young man was 27. So he was old enough to stand up for himself if he felt he had been molested. It is possible for 17 year olds to have consentual relationships, although I don't think adults should ever put 17 year olds in the position of having to make that choice. Especially when there's power involved. In fact, these cases came out in reference to something else that was going on at the time, and I don't remember what just now. I'm not sure if we were trying to pass sexual harrassment legislation or what exactly, but it was something to that affect that brought this out.

Which was a Republican and busted for the same thing at the same time as Studds. It's even mentioned in the page you linked: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Crane

So, on whose parade I am raining now?

I suspect you may not see Senor Perky back on this thread.

They'll be back again, when duty calls.

this is now. And I have zero doubt that the emails and IMs are just the tip of the iceberg -- Foley just hasn't gotten caught for the rest. You think pedophiles are happy to stop with just emails? I don't.

Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 07:21 PM by Lastlaughin08
and it's over 30 years later. One particular hatemonger on WXTK radio in Hyannis launches every chance he gets.

Now I want to hear these pious, righteous holier-than-thou RW hypocrite asswipes ride Foley into the ground for at least that long.

Wanna bet it won't happen? Because they think they're God's chosen few, that's why.

23. No point in that. It's like a three-hour infomercial for the RW.
They aren't interested in facts, at least not the ones that paint their party in a negative way. And their callers are just as brainwashed as they are.

the House read their censure of him, Studds turned his back and ignored them. Later, at a press conference with the former page standing beside him, the two stated that what had happened between them was nobody's business but their own.

is not pedophilia

I know we all like to be glib about this and consider anyone under 18 to be a child and all.

But the fact is pedophilia is an unnatural sexual attraction to sexually immature people, that is, true children.

Wanting to be with an underage but still sexually mature person is against the law and the rules of our society but it is NOT pedophilia.

Of course, I expect to be condemned to hell and back for pointing this out.

26. The Worst? Phil Giordano(R) having sex with 8 &10 year old girls
Sorry but I don't think you can get any sicker than former Mayor Phil Giordano of the "Family Values" Republican Party:

Philip Giordano (1963-) is the former Republican mayor of Waterbury, Connecticut and a convicted sex offender.

While investigating municipal corruption, the FBI discovered phone records of Giordano arranging meetings with a prostitute named Guitana Jones, her 17 year old niece, and her daughters, aged 8 and 10.

He was arrested on July 26, 2001 and, in March 2003, was convicted of 14 counts of using an interstate device, his cell phone, to arrange sexual contact with children. He was also convicted of violating the girls' civil rights. He was sentenced to 37 years in prison
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Giordano

Then of course there is the other "moral" hypocrite Mayor Jim West(R):

James Elton West (March 28, 1951 – July 22, 2006), best known as Jim West, was the mayor of Spokane, Washington. He was recalled during a special election held on December 6, 2005. On December 16, the day the votes were certified, he was officially stripped of his duties as mayor. While in the legislature he served as Senate Majority Leader.

During these years, West supported many anti-gay bills, including one that would have banned gays and lesbians from working in schools and day care centers. He also proposed a law that would ban all sexual activity among persons under the age of of 18 .

West was involved in a sex scandal in 2005. He was accused of sexually abusing two young boys in the 1970s and 1980s when he was a sheriff's deputy and Boy Scout leader. He was also accused of misusing his office as mayor to lure teenage boys for sexual relationships. He admitted to having private online relationships in the past year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_E._West_%28politician%29

25. Good post
No matter how fucked up this country might be, NO party is FOR pedophilia.

As I said in an earlier post, pedophiles are shunned by all humans. It's not a "political bean bag" to toss around. Kids are hurt everyday by perverts, many of whom have no political affiliation. They are SICK bastards who happen to be R, D, I, G, or whatever.

They should all be in prison.

beings.

The point is that this is not simply a republican issue.

The point is Studds toook it further much further then this guy did.

The point is this is a sad thing to have happen and there but for the grace of God go many many people.

I can not rejoice in this tragedy and am slightly shocked at the amount og myopic glee

ANYBODY..REGARDLESS OF PARTY WHO IS A PEDOPHILE SHOULD BE SCORNED....
THOUGH I SUSPECT IF THOS HAD BEEN A DEMOCRAT MANY ON HERE WOULD BE SAYING IT WAS ENTRAPMENT.

IT IS JUST SICK AND VERY VERY SAD.
