did hastert say earlier this afternoon that foley's resignation letter had |
|
to go to jeb bush, and that he hastert had gotten a copy of it. (and because there were people talking in my living room when this was being played on CNN i am not all too sure of just what hastert said but if he said that a federal representative's resignation has to be handed to the representative's state governor ... i am dumbfounded.
foley is a federal representative what in heck does jeb bush have to do with that other than perhaps the republican looking to appoint another republican to foley's vacant seat?
can someone please explain? or, did i correctly hear hastert?

3. Jeb gets to appont a temporary replacement ... |
|
... and the Republican Party of Florida (of which Jeb is the 'leader') gets to select a replacement candidate, even though the candidate doesn't get their name on the ballot, per Florida law.

4. o, okay. thanks a lot. |

perhaps the question to hastert might have been something like, "who will replace foley?". in that context the part of his answer i heard makes sense.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert said Friday he had asked Shimkus to investigate the page system. "We want to make sure that all our pages are safe and the page system is safe," Hastert said.
Pages are high school students who attend classes under congressional supervision and work as messengers.
He said Foley submitted the letter of resignation to Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and submitted a copy to him. A House clerk read Foley's resignation on the House floor.
"He's done the right thing," Hastert said. Asked if the chain of events was disturbing, he said, "None of us are very happy about it." ... http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2006/09/29/national/w123452D40.DTL&type=politics

6. thanks for your post ... |

i am still dumbfounded as to why foley would submit his resignation to jeb bush and a copy of it to hastert .... unless foley was bought and paid for, hook and sinker, by the bushes...and even then, he had a federal position and his boss was hastert.
america is mad and the whole world has gone crazy, or maybe it is me. i just don't understand it anymore.
