To make Baghdad safe for... for... um, who again? A city can't even dysfunction like this. Walking is now apparently a threat in Baghdad... inside the International "Green" Zone. And don't think of driving anywhere; that's outlawed, too.

Iraqi Linked to Sunni Bloc Is Held in Plot, Military Says
By SABRINA TAVERNISE and QAIS MIZHER
September 30, 2006 - NY Times

BAGHDAD, Sept. 29
— American forces detained an Iraqi working for one of Iraq’s most prominent Sunni Arab political leaders on Friday on suspicion that the man was helping to plan a multiple-car suicide bombing inside the Green Zone, the military said.

Shortly after Iraqi television channels began Friday night to broadcast news of the detention, the Iraqi prime minister’s office took the unusual step of banning all vehicle and pedestrian traffic in Baghdad until Sunday morning.

The government declined to give a reason for the curfew and did not say whether it was linked to the detention. Authorities had never before banned walking in Baghdad, and the order may indicate fears that Sunni radicals might respond violently.

Walking... just amazing...

4. So the one city we have even the most rudimentary control of...
... the citizens are not allowed to travel outside of their homes in any form?

What the hell are we even doing over there?

Note from to condi to jr, released globally with great fanfare after the "handover".

They have to come to terms with the fact that before this thing is over with there is going to be some seriously bad shit in the green zone. It's like trying to stop lava flow.
