Center for Missing & Exploited Children on the Resignation of Mark Foley
“Congressman Mark Foley’s resignation is a great loss to Florida and the nation. He has been a hard-working, dedicated and effective Congressman. He will be missed."

http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/NewsEventServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US&PageId=2820

This man is accused of EXPLOITING young children, and they issue a statement like that?! Does that not seem absurd?

Someone please do a screen capture.

http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1998/04/27/scaife.profile/">Richard Mellon Scaife funds most of these "tough on crime" organizations. I haven't looked yet, but 100 to 1 he funds this one.

5. Here's my email to this organization.
I was just referred to your comment honoring the gay pedophile who just resigned from Congress. It was posted on Democratic Underground, a blog with approx. 100,000 REGISTERED users, and many other non-registered users, including many journalists. Sure enough, when I looked at your site, there was a statement honoring Mark Foley and bemoaning his resignation.

Have you READ the transcripts of this pervert's emails to underage boys? He used his high elective office to access underage Congressional pages! ! ! Whoever is responsible for writing and posting this tribute is a very sick person him or herself, and I suggest you rid your organization of this pedophile praiser!

11. Mine
I certainly was less than impressed by your warm send off to Mark Foley. I guess I know where you really come down, don't I? Please don't count on any future support from me. I am disgusted beyond words by your transparent support of the worst of all things, a person who pretends to be on your side while exploiting children. Apparently that is OK with you, though.

You devolved yourselves to the status of jokes through that one ill considered statement by not condemning him. When the further revelations of the Republican leadership's knowledge of this affair for at least the ten preceeding months is revealed (it is already common knowledge) how will you react? With another insipid statement like this? You lack all moral integrity and do a profound disservice to those you profess to aid! Be very ashamed.

19. I sent them this.
I wanted to let you know that I am shocked and horrified to see the statement about the disgraced pedophile congressman Mark Foley on your website.

It looks to me like your organization has no problem with a man who used his position both to sexually exploit children, and to cover up his predatory ways by paying lip service to your organization and its cause.

I now must question whether your organization is truly devoted to the welfare of children, or whether it is simply another partisan front organization whose purpose is to help keep Republicans in power no matter how despicable their actions.

I certainly will not be suppporting your organization in future, and will do my best to inform others of where your true priorities seem to lie.

15. i was thinking,
where would you "hide out" if you were a pedophile in order to deflect all suspicion from yourself? For a while it was the priesthood where you were considered non-sexual, but that cover's been blown. Now, if you have the means, maybe it's groups that deal with exploited children. I'm not saying it's common, just that maybe some of the other guys in this group shouldn't be left alone with kids.

That sounds really reactionary now that I read it back. Probably just an ironic coincidence.

an official organization would not release a statement that condemns the man. it isn't how it's done. this is exactly the kind of thing to expect, and I am sure the wording was carefully planned.

believe me, the subtext is "good riddance".

Statement

National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC)

On the Resignation of Congressman Mark Foley

September 30, 2006

"In response to the numerous media inquiries we have received, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is issuing the following statement regarding the resignation of Florida Congressman Mark Foley:

News reports regarding interactions over the Internet between former Congressman Mark Foley and Congressional pages are deeply troubling and convey strong suggestions of child sexual exploitation. NCMEC is not privy to the specific facts of the case and thus, it is inappropriate for NCMEC to comment or speculate about them.

Child sexual exploitation via the Internet has become an enormous problem, reaching into every aspect of society. It is imperative that every person become more vigilant and that we enhance steps to keep children safe online.

Congressman Foley has been an effective and dedicated Member of Congress. Nonetheless, if it is determined that he has engaged in acts which have harmed children or put them in jeopardy, like any other person, he must be held accountable. If he has violated the law, he should be prosecuted."

Yeah, right. The "media inquiries." Want to lay odds it was all the emails they received from the public? I know I wrote a scathing one to them last night after reading about this on Americablog.
And I know I wasn't the only one writing to them. Their email program must have been smoking from the anger coming out of the emails. LOL.
