In memory of Doohickie: I BELIEVE the Dems will Fillibuster Alito! |
|
I really do believe that the strict party vote is a sign from above (as in the Dem leadership) that the party is getting ready for a show of strength and solidarity in support of the right to privacy and Roe v. Wade which the majority of Americans and the vast majority of Democrats support. Now, the Democrats need to peel off some Republican votes. I BELIEVE they can do it, if the American people realize what Alito on the SCOTUS means.

|
We cannot let 30% who are religious RW wacko nut jobs make the decisions for the MAJORITY in ths country.
They WILL filibuster. I have faith in them on this one.:)

Listening to the dem Senators today, I got the distinct impression that there won't be a filibuster. Leahy even talked about when Alito is on the court. Although, polls show that Americans don't want Roe overturned, the newest CNN/Gallup poll shows support for Alito.

4. Why should the Dem Senators tip their hand? |
|
Why should the announce their intentions that they are going to filibuster? Why shouldn't they leave the option open whether they will or not? Why help the Repugs by announcing their intentions ahead of time?

There is no way a filibuster is going to happen. When the gang of 14 did their little shuck and jive show last year it basically cut the "balls " off the dems. The only way they can get a fillibuster going would be if someone like oh lets say Harriet Miers was sent to the Senate then they would all agree a filibuster was in order. Scuzz balls like Spector and othe supposed middle of the road Republicans will tow the line for the republicans. I think I will call Olympia Snowjob and see what she has to say about an obvious appointment that given half a chance will overturn Roe. As far as I am concerned Roe is going to be overturned and then it will be up to the states and I can guarentee that once the righties have Roe overturned they will turn their guns toward individual states and the congress to get laws enacted that will make it a crime to have an abortion or even to give information out about an option for abortion. COUNT ON IT!

I mean, really!
Honestly, I don't expect a filibuster. I don't expect much these days from the Democratic Party. I don't mean that in a bad way, just a realistic way. It seems to me that the Dems don't have enough power (in terms of numbers) to put up an effective fight. The funny part of all that is, though, that the more rope you give the Repugs, the easier it is for them to hang themselves.
I've kind of given up on the big, dramatic meltdown by the Repugs- Plame indictments or anything like that. I just see the whole Repug revolution spending itself. It's better just to let them self-destruct than to fan the flames.

You never know, it could happen. If the Repugs adopt the "nucular option", the Dems lose either way. So if you're the leadership, what way do you choose? It's a tough decision. Frankly the best policy might be to give the Repugs what they want and hope they get what they deserve. Only when the Repug rank and file realizes it's been duped will it turn on their leadership.
I still believe insofar as I think the system still has enough checks and balances to right itself.
