Feinstein, Brown hold wide leads.
Voters Cool Toward State Bond Package
Public works initiatives spark little enthusiasm. Democrats Feinstein, Brown hold wide leads.

(snip)
U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein holds a hefty lead in her run for reelection.

And Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown enjoys a sizable edge as he bids to become state attorney general, the poll found.

The positive news for Feinstein and Brown contrasted with a series of much closer contests in the so-called down-ballot races for statewide office. If a Democratic wave is building in the country, as polls suggest, it has yet to materialize in California.

Although Democratic Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer enjoys a commanding lead in his effort to become state treasurer, the rest of the contests for constitutional offices are far more competitive. A substantial chunk of the vote remains up for grabs, with just a little more than five weeks left before election day.

House to Vote on "Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act" - 9/29/06
by In Defense of Animals
Thursday Sep 28th, 2006 2:27 PM

The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA) is a bill that, if passed, could make it a crime to cause any business classified as an "animal enterprise" (e.g., factory farms, fur farms, vivisection labs, rodeos and circuses) to suffer a profit loss -- even if the company's financial decline is caused by peaceful protests.

URGENT - House to Vote on "Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act" TOMORROW - FRIDAY

The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA) is a bill that, if passed, could make it a crime to cause any business classified as an "animal enterprise" (e.g., factory farms, fur farms, vivisection labs, rodeos and circuses) to suffer a profit loss -- even if the company's financial decline is caused by peaceful protests.

Outlawing non-violent activist tactics that don't physically hurt anyone and defining them as "terrorism" is a completely unacceptable violation of our constitutionally-granted First Amendment rights to freedom of speech as Americans. We must take action NOW to defend our right to protest cruelty against animals -- before it is too late!

Industry groups are pushing AETA through quickly and with little public scrutiny (fast-tracking it like they did the Patriot Act:
first through the House of Representatives, then through the
Senate) before the current Congressional session ends. In fact, the House is scheduled to vote on this bill (HR 4239) TOMORROW, Friday, September 29th!

3. Unfortunately, she had no serious primary challenge and
she's popular with repukes. She's repuke lite all the way and her reelection is a sure thing. I sure as hell won't vote for her.

6. I won't be voting for her....
DiFi has betrayed her constituency so many times. Unfortunately, CA dems as a whole have not been able to muster many real, credible liberal alternatives to DiFi, der goobernator, etc. It's very disappointing.

2. Why the hell would any Democrat vote for
Tom McClintock? He's as hardcore repuke as they come.

I am beyond pissed at Angelides. Where is he? Just over a month to go and not a single commercial. I'll bet a sizable chunk of the electorate doesn't even realize Arnold's got an opponent. I've never seen anything like it.

5. Not to go off on too big of a tangent from the subject of
this thread....but, that kid in the picture with Allen is his son Forrest who is named for Gen. Nathan Forrest, founder of the KKK and Civil War General responsible for atrocities against black union troops. Allen certainly would have enjoyed owning slaves, but his biggest regret is probably that he was born too late to meet and get to know his Civil War Confederate heroes. Daughters Brooke and Tyler are also named for prominent Confederates.

Too bad it turned out that his "embarassing heritage" only included Judaism. It would have been fun if he had also turned out to be part African American...
It would have been real interesting to see how he would have handled that!!!!!

say Allen has African roots....probably something he loses sleep over. Hope so.
