to cause a media black out of the book.. it is so damaging. looks like they have plenty of perverts to keep scandals from going public for a long time....

5. Why do you say no? I can't discount anything with these people. |

And it has happened so often. When bad news re Iraq & Afgan. comes out, everyone is distracted by yet another scandal. They seem to think at a "time of war", scandals aren't important to the public. They might be right. I hope they're not.

3. Do you really believe that? |
|
Come on now. The Repukes are almost guaranteed to lose FL-16 because of this. Hastert, Boehner, and other prominent Repukes are heavily implicated in an eleven month cover-up. This little sex scandal could reverberate all over the place. Democrats are absolutely livid over it. You should watch the Pelosi video on C&L.
On top of all of this, the Woodward book *still* tops news stories across the land.
I just don't find your claim credible. Do you really think that they are that stupid?

13. The Woodward book is the big news this weekend. |
|
Bernie Ward did not talk about Foley at all last night. It was *all* about the charges in the Woodward book.
Look at Google News and see what you see. Woodward's book is all over the place.

4. They've certainly known about Foley for a long time |
|
but the question is why they'd sacrifice someone who's been in office a while rather than someone newly elected.
I think the story was breaking anyway once some of the harassed pages went to the media, and the media are running with it to distract us from Woodward's book.
Face it, that party is so corrupt that there's a handy scandal coming nearly every week to switch public attention away from the fact that the White House is the nexus of corruption.

There are any number of 'distractions' they could have chosen to go with, if they'd actually been given a choice.
The GOP have been losing probable voters over the last few months. The ONE solid base they are still counting on is the RW-Christian Fundy base. If they were going to 'sacrifice' one of their own as a distraction, it would never have been with THIS STORY. Bribe-taking, misappropriation of campaign funds, something that could be spun after-the-fact to look like an innocent mistake on someone's part.
But using a GOP PEDOPHILE as a distraction? Never.
THIS was not a news story of their choosing.

9. THere really seems to be |
|
very little coverage of the FOley scandal. Faux News is minimizing it as a minor setback. When I turned on the TV this morning more was being given to the school principal that was shot. That's definitely news but it's not all the news.
Considering the "All Condit, all the time" coverage that was given to that scandal, the Foley fiasco seems so secondary.
TO me Foley is huge because of who he was and because it appears that his GOP cohorts knew about it and covered it up. These people are accomplices in my mind. That'should be big news.

12. I had MSBNC on most of the day and they were all over the Foley story. |
|
In fact, the Foley story and the Woodward book were their two main stories today. They did report on the Colorado school shooting quite a bit, but that was because the memorial service for the girl was going on today.

I must have turned off the tube too soon.
This should be covered as much as Condit or any other Dem scandal. PErhaps even more so since it involved minors.

10. I don't see that at all |
|
However, I found it interesting that Foley resigned late on a Friday afternoon. Everyone knows that if you want news buried, that is the best time to do it, since much fewer people pay attention to news on Friday nights and Saturdays.
This is also known as "The Friday News Dump".

20. Nope -- Foley is too dangerous to holding their base |
|
The whole point of the current GOP offensive is to "rally their base," which are the right-wing social conservatives.
The last thing they need is a gay pedphilia scandal regarding a Republican Congressman who is one of the leaders of the "family values" crowd, and the possibility that Congressional leaders covered it up.
