Startling honest article about Colin Powell...
Reading this I had mixed emotions through out. At one point I felt sorry for him, but then stopped when I remembered who we're talking about here.

This article details what Powell and others did during the run up to the war. It's unflinchingly honest and pulls no punches, IMO.

He's not apologetic about what he did for the bush administration and he was used by them, but he went in with eyes wide open. I think he knows that. Anyway, you be the judge.

It's a very good read.

1. I'll be the first judge ~ he has no honor and
he was one of the biggest enablers of the sorry group of criminals.

This article doesn't elevate him in any way...just the opposite, IMO.

2. Powell is no hero. He is complicit. He sold this war fully aware
that the evidence he was presenting was total horseshit. F*** him.

3. This article doesn't do that at all...
I thought the details were fascinating. Much of this was already corroborated by Wilkinson.

It's an interesting read.

4. Colin Powell.didn't resign before he spewed his lies
at the UN. He forfeited his integrity that day.

7. "Maybe they'll believe you," Bush said
Powell was used by the asshole, and then unceremoniously dumped.

10. "he coulda been SOMEONE.... he coulda been a CONTENDER"
That's what I think of when I think of Powell.. He LET himself be used and in doing so, USED UP...then tossed away.

No, I believe he knew exactly what he was doing and it comes down to his warped sense of "duty." Anyone who would cover up/whitewash the Mai Lai massacre clearly had set his pattern in life. He failed to learn from his own mistakes and allowed all of us to suffer as a result...

It is tragic, in a Greek sort of way. His tragic flaw....

11. I have more respect for Wilkerson than Powell.
Powell should have resigned the moment he smelled the set-up to push for war in Iraq. Period. On principle. He is a smart man with good instincts. I don't deny that. He knew this was a farce and he willingly let this administration tear his reputation to shreds. He willingly lied to the world out of some sense of loyalty to the Bush family. What about his loyalty as Secretary of State to the American people? Or did we not count?

It's sad, because I do believe Powell has learned from his military career and values diplomacy over war. I sincerely believe he tried to convince Bush not to go to war and was ignored. I have no doubt he and Wilkerson argued vehemently with Rumsfeld over our ill-advised Iraq policy. However, at one point, America truly respected and valued Powell's opinion. If he had resigned out of protest, on principle (such as Clarke), telling the American public the real truth behind the CIA's fabrications and Bush and Cheney's derelict war policy, the White House would have been forced to reevaluate their invasion plans. This war would not have been sold initially without Powell and that's why he bears so much culpability for the result.

13. He and McCain should both be taken out back of and VFW and
have the shit beaten out of them by real soldiers who know about honor.

They both should have known better.

Ignorance is not an excuse. Actually, there is NO excuse for either of their actions.
