Remember the Jeff Gannon (Fuckert) scandal?

I remember when that story broke, and reading many of the threads here at DU insisting that this was surely the beginning of the end for Bush and the Republican Party. I was skeptical at the time, and I was right. Instead, the story ran its course and fizzled out.

I do hope the Mark Foley (R-Pedophile) story will be different, but it should not be relied upon to bring victory in 2006 in lieu of Democrats running good campaigns and putting together a good voter turnout effort.

Republicans covered this up for over a year....and that Foley was on the committee for Child Exploitation....that combination is the critical difference....and this time they won't be able to make it go away...

The Gannon thing was just a blipbecause he was never really tied to any one specific person, and as far as I know, no laws were broken. Foleynot only broke the law, butresigned...close to an election. I think we also have to remember, this story is new, and I don't believe we've heard it all yet!

When shit like this goes to court, it gets a LOT of publicity, and I can understand why they wouldn't want their son, who's just beginning his adult life, not to have to be on the front page of newspapers across the Country! I really think I would have done the same thing.
