Repuke blogger "disgusted"- calls on Hastert (and maybe Boehner) to resign
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 09:32 PM by jefferson_dem
!

Man 'o man, this is getting GOOD...

I cannot tell CQ readers how disgusted I am with Speaker Hastert. Reynolds is no fringe nutcase; he's the man Hastert trusted to run the midterm re-elections of the Republican caucus. He has no reason to lie, but Hastert apparently did. This also calls into question Boehner's earlier reversal, when he denied saying that he informed Hastert after Hastert denied knowing of Foley's activities.

Hastert should have been a man from the beginning and admit that he knew about Foley. Now he has destroyed any credibility left in his Speakership, and he has only compounded the embarrassment for the GOP caucus. Foley's actions reflect on Foley alone, but thanks to Hastert and perhaps Boehner, the aftermath will reflect on all Republicans in the House.

Republicans have to act swiftly to remove the stench of Foleygate from the party. They need to demand the resignation of Hastert as Speaker, as well as Boehner as Majority Leader if he lied to protect Hastert. Allowing Foley off the hook was a mistake in judgment, but this is a betrayal of those who trusted Hastert to lead the House with dignity, honesty, and integrity.

6. Hastert got the job because he was far too fat to fuck around!!!!
Seriously! Remember Livingstone, who HAD the job, but had to give it up because Larry Flynt had some major dirt on him? Hastert was the default candidate, because he was too fat to even screw a warm apple pie!

12. Yep. It was humorous to watch Livingstone cut and run
with his tail between his legs concerning his sexual fidelity.

16. Was it Flynt or Steve Brill?
I thought outing Livingston's and Gingrich's affairs was Brill's swan song before he disappeared to wherever he went.

20. I remember Flynt being the prime mover. See link
http://www.salon.com/news/1999/02/cov_23newsa.html
His latest crusade to reveal the hypocrisies of Republican politicians began explosively, when Speaker-designate Robert Livingston shocked Washington by abruptly retiring after he learned that Flynt was going to publicize his extramarital affairs. But the next bombshell was something of a dud. Flynt went after Bob Barr, revealing that the rabid Clinton-hater and anti-abortion zealot had refused under oath in the divorce of his first wife to reveal whether he'd had sex with his current wife (his presumed mistress at the time) and that he had paid for his wife's abortion. But the media ho-hummed the revelations. Flynt was a victim of the expectations created by his success: Having created an appetite for think-pink scandals, he laid a PR egg by merely demonstrating hypocrisy. And since then, Flynt's assertions that he has the naughty goods on a varying number of other Republicans -- in our interview, he claimed 12 -- has begun to ring hollow.

Losing their congressional seats and possibly serving time would be more fitting

9. Oh, puhleese! They're ALL liars!!!!!
Nobody in this whole bunch is capable of making any honest mistakes, IMHO. They are ALL just trying to cover up as much as possible because they ALL know their careers are toast. It's jail time, kiddies.

10. Good Lord, they're cannibalizing eachother!
I'm a little unhappy that Foley's pushed Woodward's "State of Denial" off the front burner. To me, the Bush cabal's betrayal of civil liberties and it's reckless war on "terra" is far more treasonous than any chickenhawk behavior by a sleazeball Repuke.

But if this helps the Democrats take the House AND the Senate, then GOOD!!!

I especially like how some of the posters there whine about the "inevitable" hearings that Pelosi and Reid will launch. Selfish pricks.

11. "State of Denial" wasn't scheduled to hit the front burner until
60 minutes airs tomorrow night. There is room on the stove for several pots.

19. It's a big stove. It's a GE Profile 40" range with ten burners.
And that's the great thing about these new digital appliances - there's plenty of space for some warmed-over (but oh-so-spicy) Woodward Tommy Franks n' Beans up front, some Baghdad flambe in back and a whole oven full of Burnt Elephant Ends to boot.

Vermont Castings, Broil Mate, it's ALL good.

Oh, and did I mention the built-in smoker.

14. I rarely agree with Cap'n Ed, but...
..I've been watching the Rightard blogosphere, and he's one of very few who is actually discussing the story.

I don't agree with much of what he's saying, but the guy is capable of non-Borg thought. Good for him.

18. G.O.P. Leaders Hastert & Boehner Knew in Late ’05 of Foley E-Mails
WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 — Top House Republicans knew for months about e-mail traffic between Representative Mark Foley and a former teenage page, but kept the matter secret and allowed Mr. Foley to remain head of a Congressional caucus on children’s issues, Republican lawmakers said Saturday.

The exchanges began with what Republicans now describe as an “overfriendly” e-mail message from Mr. Foley to the unidentified teenager. Hastert & Boehner should be asked to resign!
