I'm kind of ashamed for wanting a 24/7 TV Sleazathon on Foleygate
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 10:56 PM by Armstead
I hate, hate, hate TV news' tendency to become focused on sleaze and scandal. I think it's disgusting, demeaning to the nation and takes attention away from important stuff. And I hate to see individuals persecuted and dissected in public.

But still, part of me wants that to happen over Foleygate. I want to see the Self Righteous Right Wing and the GOP embarassed and shamed over this. I want to see it go all the way to the top of the House and GOP leadership. I want to see Nancy Grace and her ilk get into a lather and discuss and analyze this with the same obsessiveness that they devoted to Clinton's sexual problems.

I feel terrible for wanting that. But if that's what it requires to break some of the hypnotic hold that these creeps have over too many Americans, I'll accept it. If that's what it takes to give Rove and his minions a taste of their own bitter medicine, I'll want it. If that's what it takes to wipe that smirk off Denny Hastrert's face, so much the better.

Most importantly, if it adds to the prospects of the GOP going down in flames this November, I'll put up with it.

I hate that I want that. But I am so desperate for the nation to move beyond this GOP/Right-Wing Nightmare that'll I'll accept my own hypocracy as a necessary price.

1. Of all the scandals that should have brought the GOP down, it takes
a child sex scandal to wake up the masses. Depressing!

6. I agree, but if it takes fire to fight fire, then so be it
Personally, I think GW Bush and the GOP should have gone down in flames in 2004, when it became obvious they forced the nation into a disasterous war on false pretenses. That should have been a no-brainer.

But at this point, whatever it takes...

2. I agree with you.
I'd almost relish MSNBC pulling out Rita "Gargles with Razors" on this one (even though I detest her more than Nancy).

Life's not fair. I believe that we reap our true rewards in the next world. That is, if we do what's moral and humane ... well, no good deed goes unpunished.

I know that I'm doing God's work when I look in the mirror. Also I believe that to help others FIRST and stop oppression is what Jesus would want us to live our lives on this earth.

IMO, fellow Christians please feel sorry for the corrupt republican and democratic elite sell-outs. They will not be let through The Pearly Gates by Saint Peter.

My reward for doing what's just is contained within my heart and soul - not reflected in material wealth.

5. You want payback, pure and simple
And I can't blame you. I want Mark Foley to have to hear his peccadillos splashed on TV as obsessively as Clinton's were. Hey, at least the people Clinton and McGreevey messed with were over 18 at the time.

10. Normally I'd feel sorry for him
But it's hard to feel sorry for someone who's wagging his finger at people who are doing things much more innocuous than he was secretly doing.

7. I'm not. REVENGE is a dish best served COLD.
And I hope like hell the Gang Of Pedophiles (GOP) scandal makes Clinton's escapades look like an inappropriate wink. I hope the media pounds this story like a piece of cheap meat, and I hope that a substantial number of the Republican American Man Boy Love Association (RAMBLA) on the Hill are exposed for the sleazy hypocrites they are.

I want to see the fundies scatter, and stay home from the polls, I want the moderate GOP to either become KERRY REPUBLICANS or GORE REPUBLICANS and pull the lever for the Democratic candidates. I want them to feel the political repercussions, and recognize that what goes around, why, it fucking comes around...times ten.

I want this scandal to crack them into a hundred pieces, and the only ones of their number left will be the "New England" style Republicans like Chaffee and Snowe.

I don't consider that hypocritical either. I consider it fucking payback!

And I have to say, Clinton violated his marriage, and he engaged in an inappropriate senior-subordinate relationship, but he didn't do anything that would put him on a sex offender registry. And that's the BIG difference.

11. Worry not and sleep tight.
What you find yourself wanting is what is best for our country. This is nothing more than political scandal (as it affects the political landscape, not as it might affect the victims of Mr. Foley) that happened at a very opportune time. Perhaps too opportune, in a Rovian way.

Kick back. Allow yourself a bit of Schadenfreude. I have.

12. I don't want it either and I'm actually going to be surprised if it happen
The media has been more than happy to go soft on Bushco and the Repukes. I don't expect to see it change. The House is adjourned, and they have Woodward's book to pick apart. I think Foley will disappear from the news within just a few days.

17. But SEX is involved. Pervy, skeevy internet sex talk with a kid.
The media love creepy sex, and people love to hear about it, way more than all that wonkish, complicated constitutional law stuff. It won't go away, no matter that Hastert and Boner have already thrown Foley under the bus. It's just too juicy to ignore.
