Just saw the JOHN LENNON MOVIE! Have you seen it?
You will laugh and you will cry and you will leave in awe of this man's incredible brilliance, charisma, and moral courage. He was much more politically active, and a target of the US Gov't, than I ever realized. John and Yoko feared for their safety, just as we all do. They were wiretapped and tailed, and almost forcibly deported from the US. In earlier days people burned Beatle records en masse. Even the Ku Klux Klan got to make a statement on the TV against them. But that never stopped John & Yoko from saying and doing what they knew at the core was what they had to say. Go see it and see if you aren't inspired in these dark times by a man who never stopped seeking peace despite threats and endless harrassment by Nixon, Hoover, and Strom Thurman, etc. Powerful and chilling precursors to what we're facing today at the hands of our gov't. We should be as brave!
For the first time in days, I felt unafraid!

Angela Davis, Bobby Seale, Tommy Smothers, Walter Cronkite, Ron Kovic are all in this movie (and a couple of stinkers I don't care to mention). People left the theatre talking about the parallels with today. If you get a chance to see it, let me know what you think.

1. I just stole your avatar! Couldn't help it. I've been learning alot...
...Fredrick Douglass lately and his life and his thoughts are astounding to me. The only other historical figure I can think of that I would speak with, if I could, would be Twain. Though, in my opinion, Twain was kind of a bastard at times. Scratch that, Mr. Douglass is now at the top of the list!

2. I can't wait to see this!!
.... and will go the second it plays close enough to where I live. The closest theater where it is now is about 35 miles away.

War is over ... if you want it!

5. is it a wide release?
In other words, can I see it out here in the hinterlands. F 9/11 played for three or four weeks, which was a happy surprise.

8. there's definitely a conspiracy amongst the theaters. in my area
they either don't get played at all or are around for one week at one theater miles away and it's gone before you even know about it. it's pitiful.

12. It's playing on ONE screen in all of Chicago
and on TWO screens in all of the suburbs.

Just disgraceful how this movie is being buried.

And you're right - I laughed and cried. Fantastic movie. My respect and admiration for Lennon has grown, and I didn't think that was possible.

One thing that surprised me was Geraldo Riveria. :wtf: He "got" what the government did to Lennon, why can't he see the parallels today? Instead he's mainlining Kool-Aid over at Faux.

On edit - My favorite Lennon quote from the movie is, "Declare peace." :D

But I only have $0.62 until midnight. :)

I should see if it's showing at midnight, actually - they do a lot at that theater! haha
