CNN wants to know what we think of the Foley Scandal.
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 08:19 AM by mod mom
I asked why the Jeff Gannon access was never investigated by the media and why the Duke Cunningham poker parties weren't given much attention. Is there a larger sex scandal looming?

Let's flood them with comments/questions:

Gee, this isn't anything new for the GOP. They've have a boatload of sexual scandal in the last few years. (But they hang on the the Bill and Monica thing and point fingers to this day.)

The hypocrisy isn't surprising, it's pretty much standard operational procedure for them. The lies, well they are to be expected. And covering up is one of their mail talents.

Poor Abe. He's probably spu himself all the way to China by now.

the Watergate Poker parties. I also brought up their willingness to go after Clinton with a venegance.

4. It is quite common...
... for those that harbor the most guilt, and are likely involved, or more involved in a certain practice, to be the ones that are quickest to point the finger at another that they might perceive to be involved in that which they themselves are.

6. The whole thing is surrealistic they way they're playing it. It's almost
like an old Twilight Zone episode.

They act like they're in a time machine and they can go back and change reality to suit their needs.

Oops! What's wrong with me? They always do that. Sorry, I lost my mind for a minute. I'm back now.

3. roasted, toasted, flamed, and shamed
Dear CNN,

Can't you see the double standard?

Can't you see through the fog of spin and propaganda?

It's simple, the press gives Republicans a pass on sex scandals but excoriates Democrats, which enables witch hunts to the tune of millions.

When will you insist, with equal zeal, that the Republicans be roasted, toasted, flamed, and shamed over their duplicity in this despicable failure of leadership?

One disgusted American!

9. My comments
During the Clinton years, the media seemed to be all Monica all the time. Despite it being inappropriate, there was nothing illegal about two consenting adults. Yet, despite the far more lurid and illicit sex scandals the past 5 years, it has hardly gotten any play in the media. We have:

Jeff Gannon, a gay hooker who went to the White House over 200 times, often spending the night.

The Duke Cunningham parties at Watergate with hookers being traded for votes in Congress.

We have Neil Bush and his prostitutes in Asia, also being traded for lobbying on behalf of Chinese corporations.

Now, we have Rep. Foley showing himself to be a sexual predator - at the least - and Republican leadership covering up for him.

What will we tell the children?

My question to you:

If the Republican Party cannot keep Congressional Pages in their charge safe, how are they going to keep the rest of the country safe?

While the "Foley Scandal" is certainly an important issue in terms of exposing the hypocrisy of the Family Values Party (read Republican) not to mention the overall travesty of sexual predation in this country, I feel that there is a more important story that we should be focusing on.

This past week a host of our Constitutionally guaranteed rights have been heinously abused, if not negated entirely, by this administration and the enablers on the Hill.

For all intents and purposes American Democracy was murdered, with malice aforethought, this week.

Wake up America.

Dear Sirs,

Are you going to pursue Foley's crime with the same ardor as you did President Clinton's consensual sexual activity with another adult? Are you going to insist that an investigation be held as why Foley's harassment of minors was known by other members of his party and nothing was done to stop it until it became public knowledge? In short sirs, are you going to cease and desist being the propaganda tool of a political party that winks at pedophilia?

21. You'll like mine.

Surprisingly, I find myself unsurprised. Republicans gave us:

Richard Stickler and Dave Lauriski, coal company executives, as head of
the MSHA;

Edwin Folke and Jonathan Snare, union busters, as head of OSHA;

Paul DeCamp, a Wall Mart lawyer, to head the Labor Department Wage
and Hour Division;

Cheryl Halpern, a professional government propagandist, chair of the
Corporation for Public Broadcasting;

Tony Snow, an editorial pundit and radio jockey, as White House Press
Secretary;

Thomas Noe, a now-convicted money launderer, as a major party fundraiser;

Duke Cunningham, a now-convicted defense contract kickback artist, on
the Appropriations and Intelligence committees;

Bob Ney, now-convicted bribe taker, member of the Committee on House
Administration;

So in light of all this: Mark Foley, a sexual predator, in charge of
the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children? That just seems like
par for the course for the GOP.

(I want to turn the above into one of those really long annoying chain
letters you can send to your freeper family members, but need to add some more.)

23. Here is my email:
Sexual exploitation of a minor is a crime. Matter of fact, it is considered in most jurisdictions, a serious felony requiring mandatory jail time and registration as a sexual offender. Anyone conspiring to hide this type of criminal conduct is guilty and chargeable with the felony crime of conspiracy. Not only should Foley, the perpetrator, be charged, but anyone who conspired to hide the facts of the matter should be charged, in my opinion, with the felony crime of conspiracy. If those elected and put into positions of power to protect children, are given free passes on this, what type of precedent does this set up in our courts when someone who is not in a position of power as they are, is charged with like or similar crimes? Whatever applies to "Joe or Jane Average" who is represented by the local public defender when he/she commits a serious child-endangering offense of exploitation such as this, should apply to those we elected and charged with protecting our children. In fact, those in power should suffer the highest level of punishment because they are the ones who have the inherent power to circumvent the system -- as did Foley for far too long -- with the aid of others in power. Let him be an example -- that this nation will not accept this behavior in any manner whatsoever. Anyone who commits crimes against children such as this, or aids and abets the perpetrator by covering up the crime or failing to investigate and charge such crimes, these abettors being elected representatives the people of this nation have entrusted with the protection of our children, will be made an example of by suffering the most severe consequences which can be meted out by our courts.

26. I totally agree.
Maybe if the complaint DA has the balls to charge this bastard with a sexual-offense-against-a-minor crime, then our tax dollars will not go in the future to support his sick, child-endangering lifestyle. Makes me want to :puke: with the thought that Foley will get "rewarded" for his conduct with a $100K/year retirement. I say charge him, convict him and lock him up, take away his pension and when the bastard gets out of the slam, make him register as a sexual offender.

Thanks of the compliment, btw! And another thank you for starting this thread with the CNN link. It felt VERY good to get that rant off my chest when I clicked on the "send" button for my comment to CNN. :hi:

Thanks for asking.

This Foley thing is just plain gross! It reminds me of the debauchery of Caligula. See what supreme power with no oversight does! No, checks and balances and pedophiles running rampant in the US Congress!!! YUCK!!!!

You are wondering what we are thinking? Well, I am absolutely disgusted! This is just getting SICK!!!! First Gannon, then hookers and poker parties, NOW THIS!!!!????

It's time to shine the flashlight on these cockroaches! I want my country back with all the dignity and respect we USED to have.

33. Woot! Here's mine!
Mark Foley is a pedophile who abused his position of power, plain and simple. What's far more appalling, however, is that the Republican leadership of the House covered it up and allowed it to go on for years. This type of behavior from a group of people whose political game plan for the past two decades has depended upon self righteousness, sanctimony, passing judgment, and playing God is obscene. Perhaps it all falls in the "he doth protest too much" category. Given the number of individuals caught in "colorful" sexual escapades—to say the least—perhaps the constant trumpeting that they are the party of moral values actually entices sexual deviants to become Republican!

I also told them that their own hypocrisy has been overwhelming and that the real story isn't just Foley's actions itself, its the whole fricking GOP and their failures. Failure to remove this man from his role on the caucus for missing and exploited children and to allow him to continue in his role in Congress without a thorough investigation. Its just another failure of this GOP led Congress and failing America.

The GOP is allowing our countries treasury to be robbed, they are led and controlled by special interests and the lobbyists, they are pro-torture and shit all over our Constitution and they can't even protect our children whose futures they have already been mortgaging away or getting killed in an illegal war they endorse!

Oh, but they, the "moral ones" want to tell us who we can marry and who is moral?

Republicans care more about appearances than about actions, it seems. Scandal frightens them more than sexual intimidation of a minor. These guys remind me of a bunch of old women who should be organizing a tea party, not running a government. There is no State of Denial in the United States.
How can they tackle the real life problems that plague a nation if they are afraid to take care of their own problems?

Gee, it appears that the GOP House leadership had pre-scandal intelligence re: Mark Foley's inappropriate contact with young, male pages.

Something along the lines of: Foley determined to strike in the US (Congress).

Another fine example of the GOP's proactive approach to safety.
