I need some information on recall of "retired" U.S. forces personnel
I think that if a member of the forces retires, they are still eligible for recall - called the ready reserve? Is this correct? I'm having a discussion on another forum re: this issue, and would appreciate any information. TIA!

1. Individual Redy Reserves (IRR)
The Individual Ready Reserve (abbreviated "IRR" and sometimes referred to as the Inactive Ready Reserve) is a category of Reserve Component of the Armed Forces of the United States, composed of former active duty or reserve military personnel who are no longer serving but still have time remaining on their initial eight-year military service obligation, or their subsequent reserve obligation. As of 2004, the IRR includes approximately 118,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines.

4. Retirees (20 or plus years AD) can be recalled until they're
boxed up.

8. Yes, my neighbor (54 yrs old)
Retired Air Force was called up during the run-up to the war. He spent time cracking the whip at Diego Garcia, then was cut loose. And now, despite having a heart attack, he was called up a second time (lucky him, he's now required to stay stateside). Mr Gung-Ho bomb-the crap-out-of-the darkies is now starting to sing another story.

11. Yeah, I sometimes have nightmares about that.
For one thing, I'd be next to useless. My career field have been overhauled at least twice since I bailed, so I'd have drop down to entry level again. Hell, the rank structure and insignia isn't even the same now.

Plus, at 63 I'm now at the remove and replace body parts stage of my life.

Most importantly, I'm too cranky and cynical to play the game anymore. I don't want to bomb the crap out anyone. Never did actually, but now I'd say so and we all know where that would lead.

5. I have been out of the Navy for 15 years. If they called me up, I would
smoke as much pot as is humanly possible before my physical.

6. Well, there's also "Walking Around in Women's Underwear"
Pack on a humongous amount of weight

Get pregnant

A 'X' rated tattoo on your forehead

Bed wetting

Or (drum roll) register as a Republican, providing you're that desperate

7. Packing on weight -- the guys in the Navy called it, "Feast for Freedom."
One guy I knew was told if he didn't lose weight, he would be kicked out of the Navy. He went on an eating binge and packed on the pounds. He said that he was crying when they told him he was being kicked out...but they were tears of joy!!

10. that will not
work anymore. The military is in such dire straights right now when it comes to manpower that they are overlooking positive test results.

However,in the future,if you try to apply for vet benefits you can bet they will dust that report off and try to use it as a means of denying benefits.

12. Pack on enough and it'll work
The Army might be that despirate, but the other branches still get tetchy about excess lard.
