1. And let me guess, traffic at DU has increased. I have seen
a lot of newbies; maybe folks are waking up finally.

That would be a great sign!

7. DU has dropped a little recently but nothing like FR.
I find it hard to believe DU has dropped because traffic seems extremely heavy to me. It goes up and down but is holding steady over the long term.

6. Here is the long term graph:
http://traffic.alexa.com/graph?w=379&h=216&r=max&z=&y=r&u=democraticunderground.com/&u=
^^Ours^^

http://traffic.alexa.com/graph?w=379&h=216&r=max&z=&y=r&u=freerepublic.com/&u=
^^Theirs^^

It is more, but the long-term trend is obviously the opposite of ours. Maybe we should take out adverts to increase traffic. I was a big time political junkie and web surfer, but I didn't know about DU until a year ago. We need to put out feelers. I am certain there are more Democrats on the internet than Republicans.

8. No it's not obviously the opposite of ours.
Theirs is more volatile, but the regressions don't look all that different. Except, of course, for the fact that they're about 2x as big as us.

Truth, people - truth. Not just what we *wish* was true.

Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 12:39 PM by nam78_two
so I don't really care...

DU is hardly quite the mainstream left, so comparing them to Kos would make more sense...

19. I disagree. If you draw a line with the longterm trends FR is definitely
on a down turn and DU is growing slowly but steady with a slight drop in the past few months. That always happens because people are not tuned into politics during the summer. FR has dropped 50% from their peak. Sure they have more people than we do but they have also been around much longer. Daily KOS is bigger than FR and is holding steady. Drudge is much bigger than both FR and DU and they are dropping as well:

Daily KOS (holding steady)

http://traffic.alexa.com/graph?w=379&h=216&r=6m&z=&y=r&u=dailykos.com/&u=

Drudgerepot (dropping)

http://traffic.alexa.com/graph?w=379&h=216&r=6m&z=&y=r&u=drudgereport.com/&u=

I would say Democratic sites are holding steady or growing slightly and Republican sites are seeing a steady downturn.

Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 12:57 PM by Quixote1818
That is better than a 50% drop. DU is getting close to 200. They are clearly dropping and we are clearly growing. Thanks for those graphs.

21. another interesting thing is they are listed as multi-issue
http://www.alexa.com/browse?&CategoryID=5262
Alexa - Browse: Multi-Issue

they are number one on that site but look at the rest of the list...

how are they multi-issue when they are clearly an one issue site?

24. Look at this graph
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?&range=max&size=medium&compare_sites=democraticunderground.com&y=r&url=www.freerepublic.com#top

DU only dropped because it was summer and people were not tuned into politics. FR has dropped over 50% from it's peak. We are clearly still growing and they are clearly dropping. You have to look at the long term trends.

26. It Does Appear We've Closed The Gap Quite A Bit.
The 3-6 month view is pretty similar, but from an overall trend standpoint they definitely have dropped more steeply overall, whereas DU has remained a bit more consistent.

:sarcasm:

Also, I think this trend may well be a reflection of declining right-wing radio ratings. Or at least declining ratings in some key parts of that market. They drive people to sites like Free Republic. I believe Limbaugh and Hannity both mention it by name.

30. wow, so more freepers have the Alexa toolbar.
long term DUers of course know what freeping polls is, and the DU response of DUing polls. the alexa rankings are based on traffic from internet users who have downloaded the Alexa Toolbar. so the freepers freeped alexa. it makes them feel good, but really means nothing in the real world. i suppose if we gave a damn about petty popularity contests we could DU alexa and beat their numbers. but why?
