Reynolds accepted $100k from Foley in July.
According to our Foley coverup timeline, Rep. Tom Reynolds (R-NY) was informed of Foley’s actions towards House pages in February or March 2006. The New York Daily News reports:

1) “Reynolds’s personal PAC, TOMPAC, wrote Foley a check for $5,000 on May 10, 2006.”

2) “On July 27, 2006, the , which Reynolds chairs, accepted an unusually large contribution of $100,000 from Foley. Hard to imagine something of that size just slipping past the chairman.”

2. HUSH MONEY.
Fattening up the GOP congressional 'war chest' is more important than keeping the youth of america safe from unwanted predators.

Or so it would seem...

8. Definitely HUSH MONEY...you pay the guy off who has yer balls in a vice
He loosens the vice, and you move on. The guy keeps the money in case his race gets competitive and he needs cash to buy commercials, or, he uses the money to buy time for other candidates, and if they win, they're beholden to him and he expands his power base in the legislature.

It't that old quid pro quo at work...nobody does that better than the GOP!

13. This whole thing looks like the perfect storm against the repugs.
and no, i don't think this was planned by Rove.

It kinda reminds me of the watergate era, when all these different scandals converged at once, and it became a tidal wave, that finally brought down king Nixon.

Could not have come at a better time.

Here's the list, not complete
1. nse says war in iraq creating more threat to the usa
2. woodward decides to not put the white house in good light, and tells some of the truth.
3. abramoff, who seems that bushie had decided to invade iraq.
4. foley follies

People are going to be sick of hearing these things in the next 30 days, and they will take their anger out on the repuker thugs. Right now 9% African Americans approve of the job Bush is doing in the white house. The rest of the country may soon follow suit.

14. Thoughts on the subject from Glenn Greewald
UPDATE V: Rep. Reynolds -- after he learned of the e-mails sent by Foley, and after he did nothing to cause an investigation -- received on behalf of the NRCC (which he chairs) a $100,000 check from Foley's PAC. Honestly, I'm not as excited by that revelation as others are. It has a definite cosmetic significance -- and is the type of item that can be and certainly will be used in the miserably substance-less sound-bite wars on cable television -- but money transfers of that type are routine in Washington and I'd want to see if there is anything irregular about this transfer that suggests a causal connection.

What it does reveal is that Foley was a critical and important player in the GOP House leadership circle. And Reynolds and Foley have close ties in other ways. Those facts are surely significant in understanding why the GOP Leadership seemed so intent on protecting Foley at the expense of the pages on whom he was preying.

15. people..please hold the networks accountable for reporting this
I am seeing a few cracks in their neocon exterior this morning-hold them accountable for pursuing this story.I emailed Soledad and asked her why she wasn't reporting this aspect of the story.I told her she was guilty of helping these sick bastards if she didn't report the ENTIRE story, not just CNN's talking points. It can't hurt.
