Foley Lay In Wait For These Kids - (TPMMuckraker)

Foley Waited until Program's End to Email Pages
By Paul Kiel - October 1, 2006, 2:14 PM

<snip>

Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) waited until pages had left the House Page Program before striking up correspondence with them, according to a former page who was in the program from 2001 to 2002. Matthew Loraditch, who now heads up the alumni association for former congressional pages, said that three of his fellow pages were contacted by Foley only after they'd gone home for the summer.

That made any recourse for his friends much less clear. While in the program, pages had been advised that if they felt they were being sexually harrassed, "you should go talk to someone you feel comfortable with," Loraditch said. Since his friends were at home and they didn't feel threatened by Foley's emails, Loraditch said, they didn't report them.

This seems to have been a pattern for Foley. The 2005 emails from Foley to a page that ABC News revealed on Thursday were also sent just after the close of the page program. In that case, however, the former page alerted a congressional staffer about the emails.

Loraditch's friends began receiving messages in July, 2002, he said. "The first few were kind of normal," he said, similar to the emails reported on Thursday. The program had ended in the first week of June, and Foley had given his email address to a number of pages then.

Eventually, he said, the messages became more sexual. Loraditch couldn't remember specifics, since he hadn't seen the messages since 2002, but said, "I remember them being quite sexual and explicit." He said that his friends, who'd shared the emails with him then, did not wish to speak about their experience, but did say that he'd spoken to two of them about their correspondence with Foley since Thursday.

He shouldn't just resign, he should be in jail. What other boys has he had "contact" with?

1. A continuous pattern of behavior, and I wonder how much was reported...
How many kids were pursued by this sicko throughout his career in the House?

2. ...in a situation like this," he said, "where there's three, there's more.
I find it ASTOUNDING that the gubmint can force US to give up our shampoo and toothpaste at the gate, be subjected to intrusive searches, tap our phones AND our 'internets,' yet NO ONE HAS CHARGED THIS ASSHOLE YET. Where is the warrant for his computer? Or computerS???? Where are the deputies bringing him in to be photographed, fingerprinted, and shoved into a holding cell until his attorney can show up with the bail money?

It's like they're giving him a huge headstart to destroy evidence.

Heckuvajob, {cough) "Justice" (choke) Department....

6. I Asked Yesterday Of Mr. Foley's Whereabouts
This dude cut and run in a hurry. No Press Conference...not even a press release. Poof, he's vanished. Where is Mr. Foley? And this is a two-fold question. On one hand, could he have run home and to his offices and scrubbed his puters and then locked himself in the closet? Or as someone here hinted, could we end up hearing about Mr. Foley's untimely demise due to being disgraced and his secret life being exposed?

The $64,000 question is where did Mr. Foley solicit from. If he did so on a House puter, I'm sure there has to be some kinda
"residue" on their servers...or if he used AOL, I'm sure they have stashed somewhere in Vienna, all his past emails and IMs. Several years ago, AOL was subpoenaed in a divorce case and turned over several years worth of email and IMs.

What I find interesting is how Hastert was so up in arms when the FBI raided Jefferson's office...and now I think we can see why.

10. And the Clerk of the House took his website down in fucking SECONDS
It wasn't like DeLay's, that stayed up there a few days, or even Duke Cunningham's. The fucking thing was GONE, the photos STRIPPED. You can get the text in caches or the wayback machine, but those photos....POOOOOOOF!

Your Jefferson comment is VERY COGENT. I agree with your thought that Hastert was thinking FOLEY while he was defending Jefferson.

11. The only thing I read was that he was very upset and his sister, who
he is very close to, was with him. If I remember, they indicated that he left town to go "home"...wherever that is. I'm assuming Florida.

7. I would like to know, too
Why is he not arrested yet? A guy who lives near me was arrested for the very same thing. The police came in and hauled off his computer and lots of other stuff. He plead guilty and now he's on the sex offender registry and can't live or work near places where children are, such as schools and day cares. Why not Mark Foley?

4. This will have to be the first order of business when Congress returns
I don't care about the wiretapping bill. This needs full investigation with prime time network TV hearings.

12. He has only been in the House since 95, and they had email then as well
Actually, they had one of the better government computer systems at the time. You were better off with a .gov than a .mil email address, overall (except for the IRS, and they still are a bunch of fuckups when it comes to IT). Some .mils had good systems, but it was very patchwork.

I'm guessing that before he became a legislator, he probably did the traditional trolling to turn out youngsters--swim meets, basketball games, playgrounds, video game parlors at the mall....!!!!

He was probably thrilled with his new job, it being so much easier to just Turn A Page!!!!

14. That's what I was wondering
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 02:54 PM by DoYouEverWonder
A guy like Foley doesn't suddenly wake up one day in his mid 50's and decide to become a pedophile. He's got issues that go back a lot further then the last year.

8. Pelosi said he was "stalking" those kids
which gives an added dimension to the sordidness and another layer for outrage. For once, Dems get to frame the debate.

13. Pelosi was right. He was trying to Turn the Pages.
Someone who has studied this sort of criminality can probably describe it with more authority than I can, but this clown was clearly "grooming" these children so that they would find it somehow acceptable to fuck an ugly old fifty-something (and Jeez, either my family has good genes, or that fucker looks like one OLD LOOKING FIFTYISH guy) asshole.

He needs to be apprehended, charged, photographed, fingerprinted, and bailed. There is NO EXCUSE for letting this shit sit. They've got enough to charge him with a felony. If more comes to light, well, add it to the pile.

Justice fucking delayed is justice fucking denied!!!
