Take a minute to be humane. Long enough. |
|
I am sure that Mr.Foley is very upset that this has come out. It reminds me of a judge in Seattle that was exposed (so to speak) for the same sort of thing. He was notified by the newspaper the night before the article broke, said "thanks and no comment" then killed himself. Turns out it was well known but no one had publicized it/done much about it.
So, Mr. Foley, while he is responsible for his choices, his actions, is understandably upset, he will perhaps get the help he needs or at least the exposure to get the hell off commissions and things working with kids. And I am sure that no matter how bad he feels, his victims feel worse.
But take a moment to think, consider, be humane.
OK, long enough. Back to the jokes and the snickering.

There is actually no need to concentrate on Foley himself anymore. He is done anyways. Those who covered it up should be the target, now.

We should hold his feet to the fire, but there's civilized ways to do it... Not the Rita Cosby way.

Their lack of action is why this behavior continued unchecked.

any way or was disciplined for 9/11. The ticket agent who let Atta on the plane killed herself. Says something about Republican values. I wouldn't worry about Mr. Foley, he probably has a nice offshore account.

John Wayne Gacey was a Boy Scout Leader, kids look up to men in position, and he was taking them and killing them and burying them in his back yard. Just because a man has a position, does not give him a pass, Foley has sexually harrassed these boys, minors. He should be locked up now, his computer should be with the FBI. We have laws, and he was the one in charge of these laws. Humane treatment I don't think so.

8. You missed the point. NOT humane treatment. |
|
I do not advocate any pass for this person, or for any of those otherwise knowledgable or involved. Far from that. Just 1 moment to pause and reflect.
Take a moment to be humane. Long enough. (actually my post started as a joke, but evolved into taking 1 moment seriously, then back to laughing at his discomfort and working towards the consequences of his actions)
Now to get him the help he needs and the outcome he deserves. And get those who covered up to be held responsible for their actions. No pass. Not at all.

Fairly new here, and have kept out of the discussion on Foley, should have paid more attention to the other post and realized. Sorry I have just had it with this admin, and you had to take my harsh words against your post.

I could have the compassion you 'rightly' ask for- but I'm afraid I can't.
Many children are threatened into silence about what is being done to them with exactly what you are saying. "If you tell anyone, I'll kill myself"- (among other head games)
A few years ago, in my little neck of the woods, a beloved Priest was accused of molestation. Before any actions could be begun on the issue, they found his car near a bike path- And his body in the woods. He had killed himself.
Now, imagine what the boy who FINALLY overcame the fear/shame/conflicting emotions/guilt and confusion felt when this happened. I don't know what became of him, but my heart BROKE for him- because even years later, when it seemed safe, important, and right to speak up, the abuser got the last word.
So, while I feel pity, and sorrow that some people become what they do, the victim is the one who needs compassion. Needs help, and needs to understand that what was done to them is WRONG-
The saddest thing is, so many male abusers, were abused themselves. We need to help stop this- somehow-

17. I feel very sorry for the abused, also for the abusers along w much anger |
|
I hate what they do to kids, what the long term after effects are for abused children and cannot forgive abusers. I can pity them, but will not forgive them. The abused need compassion and help to be able to accept that someone had this power over them, has this power over them, they can somehow get past some or most of it but they need the compassion and help.
This post started as a joke (take 1 moment, long enough), but then I got thinking before I posted it and it ended up being more serious. Sometimes this happens. While I am snickering about Foley's hypocracies, I will not forgive him for his actions in hurting others.

to have poorly expressed myself.
I think your encouragement to feel compassion even for the 'bad guy' is absolutely RIGHT.- I wish I could 'feel' what I believe should be part of the response. People don't start out wanting to be abusers, cruel, heartless, and mean people- We all start out as innocent, helpless beings- something goes amiss. Your post reminded me of this- and I DO wish I knew how to put my own crud aside, and look through eyes that see the humanity in all of us. It might have been begun as 'a joke'- but what you said is important- at least I need to be reminded of it- even if it makes me uncomfortable.
Sorry not to communicate my thoughts better-

He is a hypocrite, after what they did to Clinton, and that was something private between his wife and him. He deserves what he gets. I have no sympathy for him. He deserves what hell he gets.
