Foley killed discussion of enemy combatant & the death of habeas corpus
Before Foleygate we were discussing the enemy combatant ruling & the death of habeas corpus.

Interesting how foleygate just killed that discussion.

Is it because we can't face the fact that we can not do anything about the death of habeas corpus and the enemy combatant ruling so we BLOCK it out with Foleygate?

What is more important Foleygate or enemy combatant ruling & the death of habeas corpus?

Let's take a look at ourselves.

5. The issue is not the ability to "multitask my outrage"
The point I'm raising is how Foleygate has killed or replaced the discussion of the enemy combatant ruling & the death of habeas corpus.

That's just the way it goes. Thanks for at least standing up and saying something. You'll sit back down with arrows in your back, but it was worth saying.

My impersonation of an angry reply DELETED (my prediction got a little too close)

Of course, there's just gum-chewing and very few who are walking at the moment, but that's probably unimportant, eh?

4. Taking back our rights...
...requires that we take back Congress and then re-establish a system of adequate checks and balances. Having the constitution shredded, being lied into a war, having torture legalized...these apparently haven't gotten "the peoples" attention. Maybe a GOP that promotes and covers up for sexual predators, especially considering their frequent "moral grandstanding"...will...

6. The detainee bill and habeas corpus are the really important issues,
but believe it or not they are too technical for most people to comprehend! Foley and his accomplices can be understood instantly by anyone. That's why it's the issue that's going to bring down the BushBots--and that's why I'm focusing on it. Not because I don't have my priorities straight.

7. Exactly.
We can't really *do* much unless we have the power. If this circus helps with that, great. Not dismissing the importance of the torture bill, nor of the families this jerk has impacted. Just saying the current flap might help in November.

This is an article about Halliburton building detention camps all over in the US.

A must read! http://www.truthout.org/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi/47/17936

The Ohio Bill: http://www.newsnet5.com/news/5580743/detail.html

Remeber what HE said: If you are not with us, you are against us!

And now, "us" has changed to "me", because he has all the power to stick you in camps and throw the key away!

Good lord, how could this happen?

11. The world looks on you, folks!
It's up to you now to change things!

America, once the land of the free, is becoming a state ruled by dictatorship.
FACE IT! Search for videos of Alex Jones in google video!

As a German, I ask you: Do you really think, all Germans were dump and crazy 60 years ago? By following Hitler? No, there were a few who knew more, but the most of them were only poor people, following false flags, inspired by the evil propaganda.

And it's the same thing going on again.

Only the target is the islamic part of the world now. And again, the mainstream is repeating the propaganda without any doubt.

It's happening here in Germany too, again! All the people, who swore "this will never happen again here" are, without any knowledge, already victims of a new propaganda! It's unbelievable! No one ever learned from history, not here in Germany, and not over there in the US.

When I was a kid, I was tortured by holocaust-movies on every program on tv. I hated that, because I had nothing to do with the holocaust, nor had my parents. But I told myself one thing: I will never believe whatever they will tell me, if THEY are all telling the same shit.

There is NEVER a united opinion in the media, unless they want you to believe in things that you would never agree to in normal circumstances.

And its not only the risk of WW III that is rising in the East, it's the sundown of human rights all over the world, the rising of the new world order, later called the globalization, where a few hundred super-riches take benefit of the work of 6 billion people all over the world.

Now they try to install a " NAFTA" and a "TAFTA" to bring the foot into our door to inflammate our countries with the same disease, and I am really in worry, that our chancellor Merkel is too dump to look behind the curtain!

What you really should be aware of:

The dollar is really on the edge of total lost!
The war has been paid by an unbelievable sum of thousands of billion of dept, which can never be paid back! The only chance they have is to spread the dollar all over the world, which is already done by "Bretton Woods" - BUT!
If americas star is sinking in the sympathy of foreign central bankers, there will be a race to get rid of the dollars first- and you are in an hyperinflation as soon as you can now never imagine!

Be prepared: Buy food and drinks for at least four weeks ( think of Kathrina!), invest in sun-energy instead of shares, install tanks for rainwater, and if there is any money left: Buy gold and silver, which is not the debit against someone, but a good for itself. It's the REAL money, not the paperstuff they told you to be money. ( If this is new to you, go to google for " Fiat money " )

A last word: If the news will tell me one morning, that there has been a successful Impeachment of Bush, I will saddle up my Appaloosa, hiss my American flag again and pray to God: "Thank you, Lord"

Good luck to you all! May the lord be with you!

And at least: my sign for peace, released to go around the world:

13. If Repubs get in trouble for covering up, Foleygate will be
very interesting indeed.

However, I agree that we can't drop the torture/habeas corpus bill for a second.

14. HANG ON! Let's be pragmatic here!
HABEUS CORPUS ISSUE = Disconnect with public

SCREWING UNDERAGE BOYS = Winning issue.

First we throw the bums out doing whatever it takes.

Then we start fixing the country.

But first we have to win. At all costs. Whatever it takes.

15. There Seems To Be
...nothing that can be done, at present, at the grassroots, about losing Habeas Corpus. The average, & even above-average, American's eyes will quickly glaze over in any discussion of it. They will stay interested in sex, they will be angry at the pedophilic aspect, they will be titillated, & their attention gained, by the homosexual aspect, & they will be outraged at the cover-up, which will probably seem to them a worse malfeasance than any of the corruption, incompetence, & illegal war-making. Covering up a sex scandal is entertaining & easy to understand.

There's hope that all this will raise the spite of the uncommitted to the point of voting the rascals out, in overwhelming -- or at least indisputable -- numbers. I doubt the lose of Habeas Corpus would do the same. It's too vague, too remote, with unimaginable effects.

On the other hand, perhaps it's another evilly masterful spoof by Karl Rove, destined to snuff discussion of the ruling at once, with several weeks left in which to memory-hole Foley & present yet more lies drawing the glozing American neuters to vote Republican again.

Life's grand pageant.

16. Without control of the house, nothing will be done to
return our rights. If the Foley scandal helps us win in Nov, then let's hammer those chicken freak republicans.

Remember, the loss of our rights is for the benefit of the robber barons. It is not ideology, it is greed. The new powers granted the unitary executive will only be used to serve the purposes of the rich and powerful.

17. Must we do this every time?
When Cheney shot a man in the face, we were upset because people weren't talking about <<insert other outrage here>>. The goes for when the original torture story broke, the Plame investigation, Trent Lott's racist remarks, Enron, and just about everything that happens in politics.

I promise no one here has forgotten the enemy combat ruling just like we haven't forgotten the Patriot Act or the hell which is Diebold. The Foley insanity is just the latest scandal and like the rest of them (we have had no shortage of scandals in the past 6 years, that's for sure) things will die down a bit and DU will go back to it's regularly scheduled hodgepodge of subjects.

Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 07:22 AM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
When you do, you'll surely realize that there are still many active threads on DU discussing it. I know you may want every thread, every discussion, every topic and every post to be about it, but that just ain't gonna happen in the real world.

In the real world, DU'ers are capable of discussing many things at once: Especially when one of those things is a scandal that is rocking Congress more powerfully than anything else has in quite some time.

So take the blinders off. Look around you. You'll find there are still plenty of discussions taking place about the topic you seek, as well as discussions on many other topics as well.
