I have a question about Foley's resignation.
I know I usually do not make any sense in my posts. But here it goes.
Friday ex-Rep. Foley hears from the NY Times and Washington Post. They lead with or have columns about Foley's e-mail and IM with young ex-pages.

Mr. Foley immediately resigns. No fight. No Excuses. No nothing. Just resignation.

No help from the big guns at the GOP. No denial. No I will get back with you. Nothing.

It just does not make sense him giving up a Republican seat in what might be a close House majority.

He comes from a solid Republican district, they would probably re-elect him anyway.

WHY??

3. The emails and IMs. have been exposed...There's now PROOF.
Had they been able to keep this covered up, they would have. Hastert and Boner (Boehner) knew about this a year ago. The emails were exposed by the VICTIM and they HAD to come clean on it. They were caught. As usual, they tried to cover up a crime. They were protecting a pedophile and ignoring the victim/victims. They ALL belong in JAIL.

4. First of all, Hastert & several aides already knew at least some of
the story. What they say is that they were told last year, and Foley was warned to STOP IT!

I don't know this for sure, but I suspect he was also told something like "If this gets out to the public, you're DONE here buddy!"

When the papersaid they had the infoANND the IM, Foley knew he had not choice!!!!!

8. The man does not
want to put his family or himself through the constant humiliation he will undergo if he keeps his seat. The party wants him out so that the issue goes away, as it will. The criminal justice system will do what it does, and people will have moved on by election day, most likely, no matter what we or our few friends in the media do to point out the Republican corruption and hypocrisy.

15. I think that's the real reason.
Is there any provision to take it away when he is convicted on criminal charges?

10. ABC had the IM's on Friday and read bits to Foley's office over the phone
as I recall they reported. Foley could play off the emails previously made public and he did, but not the IM's graphic content that would be more than a wee embarrassment for the GOP in an election year.

Yes, one can vote for torturing folks without any shame or fear of consequence, but internet sex with a teenager might upset the constituents, given the GOP's "family values" platform and Foley's public reputation as a defender of our kids from, heh, online predators.

The GOP figured it was better to dump Foley and put up another GOP'er for the seat than to try to defend his sorry ass to his constituents for the next month. Figured they had a better chance of retaining the seat that way, counting on GOP'ers loyalty for the seat, than to have Foley as a live albatross around their necks with no doubt more dirt coming out about him. Course they can't take Foley's name off the Florida ballot but they'll be running someone else to take his place.

11. Did you read the IM's?
I'm betting you didn't. Just, eeewwwww. If that man had done this crap to MY KIDS - oooohhh, grrrr - calling Lorena Bobbitt.

That's why he resigned and will be in another country or a long term treatment facility by the end of next week.

13. The why will be answered as 'the story' comes out about the behind-the -

scenes 'events' and decisions that were made for the last five years - five is the latest date mentioned for some in Washington knowing about Foley.

In the meantime, we speculate.

Doesn't it seem like 'they' made a decision not to 'out' him and to ride this out as long as they could hoping their 'dominance' in Washingnton would place some kind of a teflon lid on it?

Interesting that pages were warned about him five years ago. Obviously, some of the pages must have moved on to be replaced by new ones. So was each incoming page waraned for the past five years?

There's a lot to learn.

When was he put in charge of the position he holds related to children? - More than five years ago? Or less?

Know what is behind the cover up? Arrogance.

And we know what they said about covering up during the 1990's - Foley in particular.

Hypocrites - Arrogant hypocrites. Absolute fools and lousy, stinking traitors to our country over their war mongering and using our kids for cheap killing for corporations, vote thefts, spying, and constitution and treaty destruction. As each day goes by and the crimes mount, I wonder about this country. These are the people who brag about the superiority of my country over the rest of the world. Some of us know that these people have made us a criminal nation and very un-Christian.
