Extreme legislation sends out shockwaves
In more ways than known: increased power to U.S. government

Powerful reactions to the new terror bill that has been approved by Congress and the Senate, last Thursday. The bill makes it possible for president Bush to arrest anybody anywhere, hold this person in custody for unlimited amounts of time and question him using torture. At the same time 'buried deep inside this legislation is a provision that will pardon President Bush and all the members of his administration of any possible crimes connected with the torture and mistreatment of detainees dated all the way back to September 11, 2001', says

look over the final bill, the one bush signs to see what changes Cheney made, and what signing statements were inserted.

3. What a load of garbage!
Canadians loathe the current Bush government and would never tolerate any such thing! Ditto Mexicans. There is plenty of opposition to NAFTA. Canadians are left of centre. No fear of this happening ever!

4. Are you kidding? Canada elected a conservative and a conservative is in
power in Mexico. Where've you been? It's not about what the people want - it's about those in charge and what THEY want.

8. Welcome to DU: You might want to visit these links
http://www.spp.gov

Be sure to visit the link to the Canadian office linked to this site.

By the way, Canadians who are aware of the plan have already
been protesting, not that either the US or Canadian news
conglomorates have told you about it.

Harper won't get away with much. In Mexico note how riled the left is. They won't get away with it.

30. Hi irislake
They're right, we DO have a conservative government and they ARE cooperating with the Bush administration on some very UN-Canadian measures.

That's why it's important to vote these idiots out as soon as they're defeated in the next non-confidence motion in Parliament. It's only a matter of voter education and common sense.

About this "border-erasing" nonsense, it's dead in the water. Short of actually invading us, the US can't force us into such an agreement and Harper doesn't have NEAR the amount of votes to pull that off. Not to mention that the 80-something percent of who loathe the Shrub kleptocarcy would never agree to such an abomination.

On a personal note, glad to see a fellow Ontarian on the board, and someone who's just down HWY #7 from me, as well! Howdy, neighbour!

Oh, and welcome to DU!

17. Actually today, I feel more like crying.
We have lost the country.
But hey, at least we have FOLEY and "American Idol" to distract
us from that little discussed bit of trivia...
Constitution? Bah! Who needs it under globalization, eh?
I can't wait to live in poverty under tyranny!

18. I'll start to worry about Canada
When Maud Barlow and The Council For Canadians get worried. In the meantime I want to see that Neo-Cons don't privitize our water and our health care. Stephen Harper has not become a major danger yet. The Mexican left is up in arms. God only knows why Americans are not marching in the streets considering what's happening there. Scary stuff! Canadians are safer than Americans by a long shot.

23. Amercians are not marching because
the majority of them have NO fucking clue as to what
has happened.
They will soon enough.
In the meantime, our pentagon has suggested
the use of microwave weaponry on Americans
who protest, to prove don't you know,
that a country who would use such weaponry
on its own citizens would not be committing
war crimes by using them on civilians in other countries.

And, you might want to do a littel research on the Bush Empire and
the Canadian banks, Avril Harriman and a little organization
known as La Cooperative Catholique...

Sorry to bring all this to your attention, but
you really need to know.
The game is rigged.

16. Its scary power theyve given to bush.
I remember when America actually had a Congress , those were the days, my freind.

The worst President in the history of the United States given the most overwhelming power the world has ever seen. Sounds like Nazi power.

Good lord, it is so horrifying.
His little quip, uttered with his sickening snicker,
has come to pass.
But no mind, let's get back to discussing FOLEY.

Firstly, welcome to DU - glad to have you on board.

Secondly, we all need to remember Kristallnacht - I fear it's coming sooner than we can imagine. link: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/kristallnacht.html

25. America is ripe for Kristallnacht.
I fear we are one attack away from it actually.
And now, the so called representatives of, we the people,
have paved the way unfettered.

God help us all.

Now, back to FOLEY...who will be forgotten in a few weeks.
Pay no attention to the death of the Constitution.

24. You are too kind, however, I don't think its going to help-
When they say "GLOBAL" they mean Canada too.
Do look into the the things I mentioned in a post above
about the Bush Kabal and the Canada banking connection.
It is my humble opinion that y'all are about to be sold out too.

That said, I do think Candadians are preferable companions
to Bushbot Americans if we are going to be living in a global police state
the rest of our natural lives.

Thanks for the offer!
As I recall, Candians actually read non fiction which
I find highly desirable when it comes to discussion, debate
and enlightened political conversations!
