How can we get religious right to see how GOP enabled Foley?
Do you think they are already making the connection? Is there a way to put a bee in their bonnet that these guys are posers who are taking them for a ride with the values talk which they don't practice themselves?

The religious right's love for the GOP is not so deep that they would look the other way for pedophilia.

1. We likely can't
They are caught up in whatever fantasy world they live in and sane people can't connect with them.

10. you can if you pretend to be one of them
"I sometimes wonder if our republican congressman isn't a wolf in sheeps clothes, preying on little children. Jesus said, 'It's better to have a millstone around your neck than cause one of these little ones to stumble.' If we keep electing these ungodly men, they may cause more children to stumble in their walk with the Lord."

19. Which
major segments would those be? Just a thought, but I bet that they would want harsher treatment for pedophiles than you would. Most of the conservative, religious friends that I have, would suggest castration then a long painfull death.

11. I ordered it just last week.
I can't wait for it to get here.

Back on topic, I would surmise any attempt to convince most fundies of Foley's guilt, and the GOP's conplicity, would be met with disbelief. That is their answer to most 'facts' that are inconvenient to their myopic view of reality.

8. Surely to God and Praise Jesus somewhere in leviticus
it clearly states a foley shall suck them. "Christian conservatives" are fucking perverts with no concept of right and wrong, just a big old ton of hate in their hearts. They are ignorant and proud of that condition; and as I hunt and peck many are so very proud of their brother in Jesus Mark Foley. "Christian Conservatives" are what is wrong with this country for they are domestic enemies of our constitution.

18. no, you are confusing two different but overlapping factions
There are the racist, zenophobe, gay-basher types and then there's the religious right. They overlap substantially on the gay issue, but for the religious ones, they will part company with the GOP if they don't feel they are being hard enough on sin. Those who are paranoid-dominant stick with the party because they have no place else to go, the klan and neo-nazis having dwindled to a shadow of their former glory.

9. What I fear the Religious Right will focus on is one line from
the Palm Beach Post article referenced on DU's Home Page.

The article says that is has been rumored for years that Foley is Gay - and they will use that to indict all Gays. They already try to tie Gays to pedophilia. Never mind that a GLBT person is no more apt to molest a child than a heterosexual in fact, the statistics on pedophiles indicate that the majority of them (even the ones who abuse kids of the same sex) consider themselves to be heterosexual.

Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 06:40 PM by bowens43
Several of the hard core jesus freaks at freerepublic have been defending Foley since it happened. There's no hope for the 'religious right' they are mentally defective. They see what they want to see and they hear only what the want to hear. The republicans in our government were chosen by god. What ever they have done, including pedophilia, it is god's will.

14. Start with anyone affiliated with Amway/Quixtar--Bring DeVos empire down
This is the first of several items just posted today at my blog, MLM Liberal.

Speading all this should at least help us save Michigan.

UPDATE: AMWAY/QUIXTAR AND DEVOS GAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO SEXUAL PREDATOR
Quixtar PR campaign beginning on NBC tonight doomed to fail after ABC reveals teen sex scandal involving Amway's favorite Congressmen

The aftermath of the resignation of Congressman Mark Foley may be the one story that gets Amway/Quixtar/Alticor out of political arena once and for all.

MLM Liberal cannot emphasize this enough.

Florida Congressman Mark Foley, who resigned from Congress after ABC News revelations of sexually explicit online chat with a 16-year-old Congressional page, received $8,000 in campaign contributions from Amway/Quixtar, including $500 this election cycle, between 1989 and 2006, according to the Center for Responsive Politics Open Secrets website. Foley's total contribution receipts from Amway/Quixtar rank him 30th with four other politicians.

A Florida resident himself, Amway founder Rich DeVos gave $7,000 to sexual predator Mark Foley between 1996 and 2005, according to NewsMeat.

There (are) several posts here tonight regarding the developments of the last 48 hours, some of which are rather lengthy. These will include the role of Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert covering this up. Hastert received $3,000 in total campaign contributions from Amway/Quixtar--all of it during this election cycle, according to Open Secrets.

----------

$15,000 from Amway/Quixtar and DeVos to a sexual predator. And that's only the beginning.

My blog has also linked Rich DeVos and his foundation to gay escort turned White House "reporter" Jeff Gannon.

My blog has further linked Amway/Quixtar and the DeVos family to forced abortions of women working in sweatshops in Saipan, made possible through former Amway distributor Tom DeLay and DeVos associate Jack Abramhoff.

And my blog has discussed Amway/Quixtar's major support for George Allen, Dennis Hastert, Rick Santorum and Katherine Harris. The current President of parent company Alticor, Doug DeVos, and his wife have also given money to Ohio gubernatorial candidate J. Kenneth Blackwell.

My posts on the rallying for the Iraq War by Amway/Quixtar, the DeVos family and the Distributor Kingpins (Dexter Yager, Bill Britt, Paul Miller, Ron Puryear, etc.) were found disgusting by one of the premiere critics of the business.

As "Dateline" and "60 Minutes" reported, that is where the Kingpins have made the real money--their "systems" of motivational books, tapes and functions.

However, while the Corporation's biggest critic found some of my posts disgusting, it's where the profits from the Corporation and the Kingpin's "business systems" are going that the real scam on the American people has taken place.

While Dick DeVos is running (with his profits from the Corporation) for Governor of Michigan, his brother-in-law Erik Prince is a war profiteer as CEO/founder of Blackwater, one of a growing number of companies in the area of privatized military services.

America has become one big Quixtar meeting, the effects of which go beyond sexually explicit chat with a 16-year-old Congressional page. It has resulted in the deaths of thousands of America soldiers, Iraqi civilians and victims of Hurricane Katrina.

That is the REAL "Scamway."

And as I've said at my blog, no bottle of LOC or box of SA8 can clean up this mess.

to how in military you have the poor uneducated. the soldier is stripped of all in order to condition to follow order. have a president oking torture, you will have this behavior. the soldier will create the iraqi as animal. dehumanize. a soldiermust to kill.if there is no authority to keep this in check, there willbe these abuses

now as a country we say out loud torture of these dehumanized animals are ok. they are the enemy. how long will it take for a cop or person of authority to look at a citizen who speak out against the president, who opposes the war to be unamerican, dehumanized, tortured...... because we went over the line

take argument in this direction...... it bothered him

they dont even consider these things

i told him, ... it is like the kkk protesting, as much as we hate it, we have to allow. there truly is a slippery slope

as much as we may want to use torture to get info.... it is the slippery slope

24. we can't
just look at the Catholic Church when it comes to the pedophile priests. yet they love to condemn consenting gays who are adults from having a relationship.

if anyone it will be a far right extremist who might get them to vote for them over the Republicans. but they wont listen to what Democrats say.

the ones who will be influenced are the non partisan morons who could go either way and are easily influenced by media or talk of the day.

...Or they see it and fail (as usual) to acknowledge that their party is harboring criminals, then they really are not worth your time and we just need to work hard at letting people know just how fucked and crooked the republican party is to everyone you know.

Known for 5 years and they did nothing, WTF? Everyone thats envolved should be fired, because the failure to act is also a crime.
