Education World offers a piñata full of activities that will help teachers focus attention on the contributions of people of Hispanic heritage to the history of the United States.

--- Of every two people added to the U.S. population between July 1, 2003, and July 1, 2004, one was Hispanic.
--- In 2050, it is projected that Hispanics will constitute 24 percent of the nation’s total population.
--- The nation’s Hispanic population has doubled since the 1990 census.
--- Roughly half of the nation’s Dominicans live in New York City; about half of the nation’s Cubans reside in Miami-Dade County, Florida.
--- California is home to 12.4 million Hispanics. Texas is home to 7.8 million.
--- Thirteen states have at least half a million Hispanic residents.
--- New Mexico has the largest Hispanic population by percent of total population (43%). Hispanics make up 35 percent of the population in California and Texas.
--- Hispanics have a higher concentration of preschoolers (11%) among their population than any other race or ethnic group.
--- In 2003, about 53,000 people of Hispanic origin people were on active duty in the armed forces.
Today, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 41 million people in the United States are of Hispanic origin. That's about 14 percent of us!
