it took some time to get the story out so if Pages were warned in 2001 this fucker must have been doing it long before then

1. Keeping in mind that he is, in fact, innocent until proven guilty,
I'd have to agree with you. What information has come out (and his actions following the leak) is pretty damning to any case he attempts to formulate. And if there's one group of criminals for whom I have no sympathy, it's child predators.

3. Very true.
I had a friend back in elementary school whose older brother was molested by our parish priest, who had been shuffled from parish to parish by higher-ups in the system to keep everything under wraps. Everyone involved needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

4. The fact that he resigned sort of makes that concept seem moot.
"innocent until proven guilty"

Hopefully, this doesn't move past just sleazy emails and perverted IM's

If Pages were warned in 2001, my bet would be this type of problem {sexual perversion) goes deeper and wider than maybe we want to know.

You have to ask yourself why this was not disclosed sooner by democrats if it was known: there are no secrets in DC.

I can understand why the rethugs would cover this up, but not dems, unless they were doing some covering up themselves, I certainly hope not.

5. That's true.

As I detailed in my post, his actions are pretty damning, and I'm certainly not saying that it's not a big deal and that we shouldn't discuss it.

But it doesn't change the fact that under the laws of this country, he is innocent until proven guilty. If we're going to bemoan the loss of our constitutional rights after the events of last week, let's not be hypocrites.

6. I think the emails and IMs pretty much prove his guilt
don't think there is any doubt.

naw...no doubt at all

8. You can say that all you want,
and I may agree with you, but it doesn't make it so. Our justice system provides certain protections to those accused of crimes. Until a jury of twelve of his peers say it's otherwise (and I doubt it'll be very hard), he's innocent. Like I said above, if we're mourning the loss of our constitutional rights after last week, let's not turn into hypocrites by denying what it says.

10. Do you really think he'll face a jury?
I think he's been found guilty in the eyes of public opinion. I don't know if he's broken any laws, but the emails prove he's guilty of inappropriate perverted behavior.

By your criteria, it seems we can never have an opinion about his guilt if he isn't brought to court.

12. If you'd read my replies (#5 in particular),

you'd see that that isn't true at all:

As I detailed in my post, his actions are pretty damning, and I'm certainly not saying that it's not a big deal and that we shouldn't discuss it.

But I believe in the Constitution more than partisanship. I believe it afford certain rights to everyone regardless of who they are, and I don't believe that bypassing it or denying its content is going to be productive (especially after last week).

If he confesses guilt to what he's charged with, then it's over. In my opinion, if he claims he's innocent, he's got a major battle in front of him. Personally, I don't see how he can prove it. But as someone charged with a crime, he's given certain rights, and I think we should follow through consistently if we claim to hold the Constitution in such high regard.

That being said, we also have the right to free speech, and I'm ready and willing to discuss it. I've hardly been an inactive participant on the subject around here.
