We Need To Let The Foley Matter Take Care Of Itself
Senate bill 3930 has passed the Senate
SEC. 2. FINDINGS.

Congress makes the following findings:

(1) The Constitution of the United States grants to Congress the power `To define and punish ... Offenses against the Law of Nations', as well as the power `To declare War ... To raise and support Armies ... To provide and maintain a Navy'.

(2) The military commission is the traditional tribunal for the trial of persons engaged in hostilities for violations of the law of war.

(3) Congress has, in the past, both authorized the use of military commission by statute and recognized the existence and authority of military commissions.

(4) Military commissions have been convened both by the President and by military commanders in the field to try offenses against the law of war.

(5) It is in the national interest for Congress to exercise its authority under the Constitution to enact legislation authorizing and regulating the use of military commissions to try and punish violations of the law of war.

We need to focus on issues that may matter to all of us and those we care about as the fascists try to take away our freedoms.

4. Absolutely, a military trial for Foley is a good idea
Under the same rules that he and his Congress have approved.

8. Yep. I would definitely consider him an ENEMY combatant, right?
Certainly he's an enemy of the people, and spanking his parts counts as combat in my book, so I say let's whisk him off to Gitmo for a lifetime of fun and games with the boys down there.

Who cares if torture makes him talk or not?

5. we need to hammer foley and hastert hard
and anybody else who facilitated the molestation of the teen pages needs to go down hard and they need to go down fast

we shouldn't take our focus off this issue for a moment

do we want to win or do we want to be miss manners? hammering foley and hastert on their abuse of youth could, seriously, save america

backing down when we're in the lead is seriously, seriously stupid

16. Yes, Election 38 Days
what's more important?

Foley's sexual perversions?

or our Freedoms?

I guess sex sells, and is better for getting people's attention

Therefore, full steam ahead.

I just don't want freedoms taken away while we're all focused on sex

23. Ok...minus the snark. I just don't see how the two are mutually exclusive
It is all a drumbeat of bad news for the misadministration. Not only do they lie, cheat and steal, but now we know that they also cover up for child molesters. To me this simply another argument for throwing them out of power. We're making a case to the American people. We have to hit them with all our guns.

14. foley is what's happening
this is our chance to get some serious advantage in the upcoming election if the people know about it

it's self destructive to throw away an edge like that

i hope to jesus you don't play poker, you could get badly hurt with strategy like that

throw away your good cards, yeah, right -- don't think so!

i know people who would have never ever turned away from the catholic church -- if not for the child rape scandals

if it can work for religion, it can sure as hell work for politics

17. I Have No Doubt That We Have The Opportunity
to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory

but maybe you are right?

I am worried that by the time the elections come, it will be too late as the Prez will have signed this legislation that will allow people to be locked up in the US without habeas corpus

Let's try it again! :)

Note - that was sarcasm.

12. Sarcasm is Fine
Torture is not

This bill I mention is going to open the door for torture first with legal aliens, then who knows?

The administration can declare you an enemy combatant and take away habeas corpus rights

then they don't ever have to review the case and essentially keep you locked up indefinitely, and use their torture tactics on dissidents

25. The horse is out of the barn on that now.
It's up to the courts, or nothing. With Republican fillibusters and a Bush veto ready to greet any new Democratic congress, the only hope for repeal for the next two years (at least) is a Supreme Court ruling striking that terrible law down.

So let's focus on Foley. We can DO something about that, damnit.

Seize on it.

15. That May Be True
we're all a little obsessed with sex in our country

the ABC people were gleaming over this (the woman reporter on the national ABC news tonight was laughing after she thought the camera was off.)

Sex sells.

Senate bills that lock people up, take away their rights, will kill people that are innocent and we will never know.

26. In order to stop the torture bill we have to overturn it
We need to win back the house, once that happens we have supeona power.

In order to win back the house we need to prove once and for all that the GOP is really as morally corrupt as we say they are.

The Foley case is a case virtually every American can understand, and it shows the GOP is every bit as creepy as we say it is. This is going to get a lot of people to stop voting Republican.

If they do poorly in the elections, we may be able to get enough votes to repeal the torture bill and investigate Bush.

The torture bill will not be overturned tommorow, but it is certainly probable that more dirt will come out on the GOPs knowledge of Foley tommorrow.
