How do you view the partisan divide in the Senate Judiciary Committee vote on Judge Samuel Alito?

Justified, given his refusal to discuss his views on a number of key issues.
42%

Sour grapes on the part of the Democrats, given his solid credentials.

1. Let's watch this poll!
I've seen MSNBC polls not move a whisker...I have a feeling that may be what is going on here.

Peace.

5. I agree! They appear to go from very agressively counting the
votes to very slowly counting the votes.

7. This is the problem with a filibuster.
The numbers here are probably pretty accurate. Most moderates I know see it this way. A filibuster that can't be sustained is going to harm us in November. It will be spun as sour grapes and that is how most American will see it. We have a good chance to regain control of congress, I hope we don't blow it.

:banghead:

Or do they just love the idea of expanding executive power?

Either way...

13. But, with any luck,

and some more action from Fitz, the muck will have piled up neck deep by then, rather than just chest deep as now.

The stink should become so overpowering that even Joe Schmo in Kokomo will smell it--and vote accordingly. Visualize this outcome. SG

21. The only problem will be the MSM (non)reporting
A Senate filibuster will give the Dems a chance to outline in detail all the reasons Scalito should not be confirmed. They will read into the record his writings, dissenting opinions, conflicts, his whole life of radical conservatism to justify stopping him. They will delineate how he would ratify this entire stinking imperial regime and swing the US toward fascism for years to come. His view of the constitution would be to continually constrict civil and personal rights and threaten to reverse the hard fought battles of the last 80 years. Women, blacks, gays, liberals, non-christians, non-traditionalists would all be subject to a winner-takes-all, majority rules world where minority rights will be what Alberto Gonzales would call a "quaint" historical footnote.

The numbers favor them only because the craven MSM has refused to confront the truth about this misAdministration. A complete airing of Scalito's record would make clear that if you aren't rich or in the corporate pocket, your life will be worthless to a Roberts' court that contains such a judge (don't call those jerks justices). A clear stand now may be the last chance to steer us from the historical abyss we face.

15. Don't you love the "given his solid credentials" descriptor?
His refusal to discuss things is easily documented. How solid his credentials are for that position is highly subjective.

Gotta wonder who writes these things.

23. Done but not doing very well
I wonder if people actually studied his record if they would feel differently. I really don't even give a hoot about his stance on Roe v. Wade although I can CLEARLY see that that is an issue with him on SCOTUS. I care about his stance on the powers of the executive branch.

Let's face it, with him on the SCOTUS, BushCo has likely turned the table in a criminal interpretation of his warrantless wiretapping. I almost wonder if that is the real reason the pubs made him withdraw his previous nomination. They knew this crap was about to come forward and they were unsure she would tow the line.

25. What a stupid, stupid poll
Shouldn't an option be:
Blind allegiance on part of Republicans, given his threat to the constitution.

It's not just Democrats showing the "partisan divide".

It reminds me of when I was married. Two lovely step-daughters lived with us as well as the son I brought into the marriage. They were all between 5 and 7 years old.

My then husband's mother was very mean to my son, always. I brought it up as gently as I could and she said she had to be firm with him because step-children were the main reason marriages broke up.
I still tried to be nice and said she should be kind to them all, he wasn't the only step-child and we were trying to be one family.

She didn't get it. She asked where my other kids were, had I lost custody? I told her I meant the girls were my step-daughters and I treated them just like my natural child. She said she didn't consider the girls as stepchildren and with my attitude the marriage would never last. .
