Focusing on the Foley scandal is the best way to end torture |
|
Nobody cares about the torture bill. Meaning not enough voters care about it enough to vote against someone or a party who voted for it. Face it, it's a huge issue but not seen that way by stupid Americans and some Democrats HAD to go along or lose this time around.
The way we put an end to the election of filthy scumbag rePUKEs who love torture is to play up scandals stupid Americans are more interested in like the Foley scandal.
It's not an either or situation where if we focus on Foley we're not focusing enough on torture. There would be no torture bill if Democrats were in power and the only way to get them out of power is exploit every rePUKE weakness that people CAN understand, like the rePUKE tendency to exploit and rape children. Therefore, if you want to end torture, talk about Foley.

1. take a page from the republican playbook |
|
They tried for years to find a crime to pin on Clinton. Whitewater was too complicated, nobody could quite understand what the pukes were saying, whether there was a crime or not. But lying about a blowjob, that's something that can be grasped.
The backwash 1/3 can't understand why torture is a bad thing but they know grown men fucking underage boys is a bad thing. (well, most of them do.) It's mixing homos and pedos all in one, two groups that they hate more than black people. The only way it could be any more incindiary is if Foley burned a flag, a bible, and an NRA membership card while singing the Russian national anthem.
We know we're in it for real issues. But if we have to take a cheap shot to get rid of them, so fucking be it.

2. Um, that, and THERE WAS NO CRIME AT WHITEWATER... |
|
... But thanks for schlepping republican water and suggesting otherwise - you're a good trooper!

4. Nothing complicated about Whitewater |
|
What the heck, the Clintons invested about 35k and lost it. 75 million later all they got was bjs. Now their bitching that 1.4 million has been spent investigating outing of a CIA agent. They do have brass balls, don't they?

5. This is NOT a cheap shot. |
|
Republican leadership KNEW about Foley. They did nothing.
That's criminal complicity. That's coverup. That's aiding and abetting.
They didn't even switch his committee.
They left Foley free to grope young boys in bars, as one page asserts.
Either we have laws or we don't.
The Republican leadership put power ahead of America's children.

3. When life gives you stupid Americans.... |
|
... give them sex.
Let it also be said - once the grown-ups get back in power, it REALLY needs to be high on the order of business to make Americans who are less stupid - maybe even, dare I hope, intelligent, educated, and well-read?
Yah, that's going too far. We'll settle for just "not stupid".

6. About 1/2 of voters are already mad about torture |
|
The Foley scandal makes a big portion of the republican base (who are apparently *not* mad about torture) really unhappy. Add the two together and you have a very bad picture for republicans on election night.

7. Unfortunately and Fortunately, you are correct.... |

Both things are awful, but sadly, most Americans will focus on this more and so will the media. But if the result is we get these Bastards out of power and save this country in the process, then so be it.

8. I'd like for us not to get sucked up into the melodrama, though. |
|
I think amongst ourselves we should talk about the Mil Com Act; but with the freepers and apoliticals we should play up the Rpub's tendency towards pedophilia and predatory behavior. I agree. Sometimes it's no use to bother with idiots, with political triage.
Sadly.
But I don't like to see US at DU get caught up in the hype of it all. We have bigger things to be outraged about than one pedophile. We have a law that will allow sadists and rapists and pedophiles of all stripes free reign to torture adults and children alike. We have a fellow DUer with a family member who is lying on a urine-soaked floor in a detention camp and being denied her heart medication.
I'm not saying Foley isn't tactically important-- he is and we need to use this against them. But I would like it if we don't lose our focus and get sucked up in the melodrama.

9. It's disgusting that it takes a sex scandal to effect change in America |
|
but since we're here, we might as well take advantage of it.
Still, it's despicable. Halliburton? Don't care. Torture? Don't care. Abramoff's corruption scandal? Don't care. Thousands of US troops dying? Don't care. Billions of dollars wasted? Don't care. It takes a sex scandal to create a crack in the Republican's defenses big enough to hurt them. You're right - hitting the Repubs where it hurts will help end torture and bring our troops home. But I was hoping we'd find a more noble way to do the job.
I weep for this country.
