My LTTE. comments?
Hundreds of thousands of Americans gave their lives in service to America from the American Revolutionary war to today. Abraham Lincoln, Once said at Gettysburg:
“…that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain--that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom--and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

These lofty ideals: freedom, justice, honor, integrity, dignity and a system of law and order.
They have now all been completely destroyed. This Republican party has given George Bush the right to suspend habeas corpus. The party that tried to impeach Clinton for an extra marital affair have retroactively freed George Bush of the fear of being prosecuted for war crimes, for authorizing and allowing people to brutally torture innocent persons IN OUR NAME. Bush can now imprison American citizens without warrant, without pleading their case. This Republican-controlled congress made Bush a dictator. (How Nazi-like does this have to be before you wake up America?) An appallingly soiled and brutally raped corpse of a constitution was lain at the feet of George Bush by the Republican Party.

I weep for America .

2. Not bad....Hummm, not bad at all
but, I like to verbally kick in the balls once in a while. I hail from DEEPLY REPUBLICAN yakima County in Washington state. I like to get republicans angry at me!

3. It's your letter and your decision how to word it...
...but I think dropping the "Nazi-like" makes it more likely to get published without detracting from the point.

Also, I changed the part about Bush being able to hold US citizens indefinitely to people indefinitely because there is disagreement about the applicability to US citizens.

5. One must make the accusation or everyone thinks
Bush would only hold those "rag-head" terrorists. You know he wouldn't trample on rights like listen in on phone calls since early 2000, or infiltrate the Quakers...Nah, he wouldn't imprison an american citizen without charges...WAIT he already DID!

4. Oh don't worry, you will get nasty email responses
from riled GOPers, no matter how nice or nasty your LTTE is.

Eric's version of your LTTE reads better and will rile the GOPers just the same as yours.

7. I've had them call my house and threaten me
the truth is deeply disturbing to them

the Hitler comment isn't a throw away line, the parallels are scary. this is how Hitler rose to power.

9. Has the newspaper you're planning to send it to...
...published other letters calling the Republicans "Nazi-like"?

If not, it's probably because they don't want to, and not because they've never received a letter with a charge like that.

Since the goal is to get it published, it may be better to send the newspaper my toned-down version of your letter and to say whatever you want about the Republicans at DU, which doesn't have the hurdle of acceptance by a newspaper employee.

6. Get a patient person,familiar with the English language to work with you..
There are about a jillion humourous examples, but here's two:

1) First "sentence" of your second graf isn't actually a sentence.

2) Why would Bush plead defendants' cases for them? lol!

Good luck - I agree whole-heartedly with your ideas.
