How many Repubs will vote against Alito ?
Yes, he was voted out of committee by every Republican, but when it goes to the floor for the full vote, will any Repubs vote against him? I will be surprised if the vote is unanimous by the Republicans. Maybe they can get a 50/50 vote and have Dickhead break the tie?

5. Not a fricking one.
They have been informed that a NO vote would more or less end there career in the GOP. Do not underestimate how nasty the GOP leadership is.

7. Collins and Snowe certainly ought to,

8. you know, Hatch's whining today about being shocked that the
Dems voted along party lines could rebound on him. Most Republicans will vote to confirm, but I'm not convinced that all will, largely because of Alito's positions on executive powers. Abortion's a hot-button issue and lead Republicans keep trying to force the debate back to that familiar and highly emotional battlefield, but the wiretapping scandal broke at a very bad time and has been handled poorly. Just how much more of their power does the Senate feel like giving away?

9. My guess is none...........
from what I've seen and heard. That makes it even more important for the Democrats to stick together as a unified party. However, I'm sure the "usual suspects" will once again enable the CONservative takeover of our country.

My greatest hope is that I'm wrong about this.

11. There is only one way a GOP senator will not vote for the putz
And that will be to arrange to be absent on the day in question, and that, in and of itself, is a tricky, nearly impossible, proposition. Emergency open heart surgery, a serious car accident, a coma...that's what it would take.

Since the GOP control the damn agenda, even a snowstorm that kept a few of their crew away could be an excuse to delay the vote. They can stall the "up or down" voting to do arm-twisting, if need be.

The only way I could see it happening is if a few of them grow a damn set, perhaps intend to retire at the end of their terms, and play along as if they intend to vote for him right up until the end, and get their NO votes in at the last possible second, so Frist can't come after them with a scalpel and threats, causing them to lose their resolve.

That's a made-for-TV-movie scenario, though...in real life, you don't see any courage under political fire of that sort on the Senate floor.

12. Time to rant: Republican senators are fucking cowards and pigs
Don't have a mind of their own! ONLY thing they value is loyalty to the fucking herr furrer..the only loyalty they have is to the majority in their districts that voted for them-even if it's only 1 or 2 percent majority-fuck the rest of the people they are supposed to represent. They only represent the CHRISTIANS-the WHITE PEOPLE, THE RICH and THE MEN. Anybody else-fucking forget it. And someday history will judge what they have done to this country. No honor, no abiltity to think for themselves-only a loyalty to a leader-and the majority with power-and you tell me how that differs than any dicatatorship in the world. They have no ability to think for themselves or be free men. They are OWNED by the Republican party and George W. Bush. America is dead and they are a part of it's death. The proof is in the pudding. Zero will DARE to stray from the great power that is George W. Bush. Anybody that's not WHITE, CHRISTIAN or a MAN-you have been warned. You have no represenation if you live under the dictates of a Republican senator. This court will judge your fate and your great leader handed it to you. Be happy to have your ONE religion-your ten children-and your endless wars. Have a few more children to give to be fodder for these wars.n Give up all right to privacy, dissent and free speech. Have "security" while your four sons die in war.

I despise this country right now. Absoultely despise it.

13. I heard speculation this morning that at least two Republicans are
considering it. Wish I could remember where though. Either way I think he is going to be confirmed. The courts are now stacked folks. Alito will not hesitate to grant executive overreach with regard to wiretapping if it comes down to it!

Of course Lieberman is undecided.

No Republicans have opposed him and five have yet to declare how they will vote: Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine and Ted Stevens of Alaska.
