Here's a "NEW RULE" for Bill Maher... |

Unmarried 52 yo congressmen who live at home with their mothers need to be checked out.
We taxpayers pay these guys a shitload of money. If they still can't hold down their own pad, there is something wrong.
I suspect the DU PC-Brigade will be out in force pointing out that "Lot's of men stay home to help out poor, infirm moms!" And they'd be correct, lots of men do. Lots of them are perfectly normal guys. But there seems to be an inordinate number of them who get busted for soliticing kids online and worse. Foley is just the next in a line of creey middle-aged men in Congress who are still unattached and at home with mommy. Something just ain't right there. Combined with his intense interest in "protecting" children, there should have been red flags popping up all over the place.
Sorry. Some stereotypes come about for a reason.

A 52-year old unmarried man who lives with his mum may be a dutiful son; gay; cynical about relationships; socially inept; a single-minded workaholic; an immature mother's-boy; or just a bit eccentric. None of which are crimes; and it would be a thousand pities if eccentricity in particular were stamped out or treated as automatically suspect.
On the other hand, many paedophiles, predators and rapists are married men (or much more rarely women) with kids who use their good-family-man, pillar-of-the-community image to get away with horrific behaviour (inclduing sometimes to their own families).

5. You know what? I agree with you. |

But still...there is just something that gnaws at the gut when you hear about guys like Foley, who exhibit all the tell-tale signs...making himself out to be a big protector of children, few 'normal' relationships, the 'unspoken' acknowledgement and acceptance of his 'eccentricities.' Believe me, I fully understand what you're saying. And I do agree with the general premise of what you're saying. I should know, being an artist. "Eccentric" describes 90% of my social circle. But they're all up front about their "eccentricities," and it is usually an open part of any relationship -- "This is who I am." But people said they knew there was "something funny" about Foley. All too often, we don't trust our gut and instead turn a blind eye because the person in question has been a good friend, or seems devoted to helping children. I am not saying just because he lives with his mother, but combined with all the other warning signs about this guy...
Oh, wait...
The GOP DID know about this creep, and they did NOTHING! Never mind.
