We are politicizing Foley, Iraq, Torture....etc. |
|
Why?
Because the American people want to see the END of Republican control of Congress.
So because the GOP has so much power right now the only way to alter public opinion is to expose the ugly truths that fester behind the pasty white facade of the Republican Party.
If that comes off as "politicizing" then so be it. We live in a polarized political climate and if the Republicans don't like the "treatment" they are getting, too bad.
Pay back is a bitch...

1. You can't politicize what's already political. |
|
It's the height of ignorance to claim that anything that is directly influenced or directly tied to political activities can ever NOT be politicized. It's just a bullshit term Republicans trump up when they want to deflect valid criticism.

4. But issues like Iraq and torture are political! |
|
Going into or getting out of Iraq; the management of the war; decisions about whether or not to allow torture or not (wow, does one really need to debate that in 2006...); habeas corpus; etc. are political decisions. They are made by governments and politicians, and depend on who is running the country. This doesn't necessarily mean party-political - in this country the war debates have been as much within the Labour party as between parties. But definitely political.
To say that such things should not be 'politicized' comes across as meaning "we don't want the citizens to consider the implications of their government's and politicians' decisions about these matters, or to take these issues into account when voting. Our citizens cannot be trusted to make up their minds about such issues, and should trust their leaders blindly. And if the people should dare to vote some or all of us out of office because they've 'politicized' our decisions on these matters, then they should be sued for unfair dismissal, if not sent to Guantanamo Bay! We need to bring democracy to Iraq, so that we don't need to face it here."
