Does Hastert have a strong Democratic challenger? I think he's toast
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 12:53 PM by WI_DEM
If it is true that Dennis Hastert knew of Foley's solicatation of male pages and sat on the information--then I think the Speaker is toast. Remember in 1994 Speaker Tom Foley was defeated in the GOP landslide over charges that the Democrats were misusing such things as the congressional post office and other relatively minor offenses. This is much more damning for the GOP leadership. It just goes on top of everything else including the resignations of Ney and Delay--the corruption of this GOP Congress.

1. Yes without DCCC John's on his own
John is a Navy Vets who was an intell officer when Clinton was President. John Brother Peter asked him to run against Hastert. Peter Laesch is in Iraq right now. John has been taken it to Hastert. But again without the DCCC money that was promised. You can read and donate to John at this link.

2. Laesch is our Candidate
I plan on voting for him, but he's little known out here. The hastert signs are 4x6 plywood boards and number plenty. But laesch's signs are fewer and far between. I tend to avoid our local paper (Beacon), because it's so biased, but I rarely if ever hear anything about him. And worse, the Beacon would sooner take a stake in the heart than to print something negative about Hastert.

Sadly, this is Red Country and Hastert is the King. The tides are changing though. Development is booming here, as people move further west in hopes of affordable housing, and room for their family to grow. With that comes many people from the city and more democratic voters in general. So, short of Hastert pulling out or resigning this time, I think we'll have to sit this round out - as much as I hate saying it.

That doesn't mean that we won't try :)
