I live in Eastern Tennessee, not as backwards as most people would consider, but still it has a way to go in terms of accepting differences in people. And of course, the fundies are a very loud and vocal influence - even though their numbers are lessening. This is the type of response that I would expect to hear from a good portion of the self-described "REPUBLICANS" in this area. Here, there are only two types of Republican - 1.) The Super-Rich Republican, who cares nothing of anything other than money and 2.) The Fundie Republican, who has blinded themselves to logic, reason, and intelligence.

There is hope, for sure, as perceptions are changing across the state. Tennessee isn't blue or red, it's a purple state.
