ABC: Foley sought in person dates with children he was cruising
So now the other shoe drops. Not only did the GOP cover-up of a child predator since at least 2001 lead to the serial sexual harassment of numerous children, but now we find out that Foley tried to arrange what were clearly in-person sex-dates with children. (And from the sounds of the communications below, he may have already consummated one such rendezous.)

I want to hear Denny Hastert and the other members of the Republican leadership say that they had NO IDEA that Foley had a problem with being too close to the pages. I want to hear it. Because they knew.

From ABC News:
In addition to explicit sexual language, former Congressman Mark Foley's Internet messages also include repeated efforts to get the underage recipient to rendezvous with him at night.

"I would drive a few miles for a hot stud like you," Foley said in one message obtained by ABC News....

Maf54: I miss you lots since san diego.
Teen: ya I cant wait til dc
Maf54: :)
Teen: did you pick a night for dinner
Maf54: not yet…but likely Friday
Teen: ok…ill plan for Friday then
Maf54: that will be fun

Maf54: I want to see you
Teen: Like I said not til feb…then we will go to dinner
Maf54: and then what happens
Teen: we eat…we drink…who knows…hang out…late into the night
Maf54: and
Teen: I dunno
Maf54: dunno what
Teen: hmmm I have the feeling that you are fishing here…im not sure what I would be comfortable with…well see

1. Wanna see Foley in state prison, not a Club Fed!
Child molestors get such special treatment from the other inmates!

11. Remember that one priest who was killed because he diddled...
those alter boys? Yep, Foley may kill himself before it is over with because I don't think anyone sane would want what would come to him in a regular prison.

18. More likely some Republican will take him out
and then off him. You seem to be setting us up for something with your posts.

2. I think Hastert's "loophole" is
that he's saying that he didn't "read" the emails. Sure, he may have known about them, but he didn't "read" them.

7. He can attempt to go that route
but he is Speaker of the US House of Representatives. It was his job to know and to assign someone to keep that program safe and to investigate Rep Foley if there were complaints. The idiotic defense that Hastert is attempting is lame.

In the 'real world' of business, I have seen people fired for this. Then again, there was a company reputation to preserve and the threat of a lawsuit to keep people in line. Apparently, oversight and responisbility and accountability were not problems for the Republican House and it's 'look the other way' leadership.

19. Right on TayTay
If Hastert had looked into the problem he would have had to read the e-mails and he would have had to ask questions. The first thing he should have done was call a meeting of the page committee and informed them. He didn't. Instead he covered it up and hoped it would go away. What Hastert should have done and what he actually did are polar opposites.

6. Something else disturbs me about this
I have a couple of male gay friends, and this kind of crap once again puts them on the pedophila defense alert. It takes so little to backfire on basically good folks just living their lives.

10. I share that misgiving.
As a straight guy who's had both gay and lesbian friends, the "sidestream" damage is something to be abhorred. There's more than a little anti-gay and other biases that I sniff in the reactions I've seen. It's tragic, imho.

13. This makes me very sad - you just know this will be used by many to
whip up homophobia - "see, we told 'ya gays are pedophiles", etc, etc, blah, blah, blah.
Sad, sad, sad.

(I suspect that the %age of hetero males who are pedophiles is at least as high (if not higher) than the %age of homosexual males who are. And, of course, both percentages are small). Anybody seen any reearch on this?)

If they did they wouldn't be my friends any more.

9. It seems clear
given enough time, Foley would certainly have molested a kid (if he hasn't already). Anyone who protects a child molester is just enabling them.

12. These are the worst messages I've read
There's no overt sex talk, but the implications are far worse. And there's clear evidence of a powerful Congressman using his position. Dinner with a Congressman I assume is something these high school kids who become pages all long for (although not the apparent after-dinner consequences).
