Sen. Macacawitz scrambling to GIVE AWAY Foley money
Virginia Senator George Allen is one of two Republicans in tight re-election contests who plan to donate to charities the contributions they received from Mark Foley, the former congressman ensnared in an Email sex scandal.

Allen plans to give away the $2,000 his campaign received from Foley last year. Allen campaign adviser Dan Allen says they're "actively looking to give it to an appropriate charity or entity." Senator Heather Wilson of New Mexico will donate $8,000 she received between 1998 and 2002.

4. Is this common?
A congressman donating to another congressman's campaign? Don't they usually need money for their own campaigns? Add to that the $100,000 he donated to another politician - where did Foley get all this spare cash, anyway?

he found out about Foley and the e-mails.

10. It is common

Representatives that are in safe contest and have a lot of money on hand can give to other candidates to buy favor and influence after they win. An example in the democratic party is Hillary Clinton. She has raised millions for the senate campaign this year that she will not need to spend on that campaign. She can either save it for later campaigns (Presidential or Senate again) or she can give to other candidates for their campaign.

12. They do it ALL THE TIME, it's how they acquire POWER
Do you think DeLay got his leadership position on the basis of his personality? Hell no. The guys with clout and influence have it either because they EXCEL at this money shit, or they have the Monkey's ear.

They raise money, and hand it off to people who will vote the way they want, cosponsor legislation they like, play parliamentary games to advance their causes, and so forth.
