Shimkus gives the pages riot act about proper behavior!
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 03:24 PM by cynatnite
Friday night, Capito and Shimkus went to visit the pages, who stay in a Washington dorm.

“We told them they can talk to adults, us or their counselors or whoever,” if they feel uncomfortable about how they are treated by anyone — House members, staff, or others, she said.

Just a few days earlier, Shimkus had “read them the riot act” about behaving properly while in the program, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. On Friday, he told them, “I’m embarrassed, I’m ashamed. This lecture I gave you I should give to my colleagues.”

5. "72 in the House, 20 in the Senate". That flashed on my TV screen this
evening, though I can't recall the source exactly. I've watched coverage of Predatorgate on all three network nightly news shows, PBS Newshour, Hardball, Countdown, Anderson Cooper 360, and ScarboroughCountry!

2. You "can talk to adults, or counselors", but if you talk to the press...
we'll hand you your ass on a plate.

3. I read it differently than that...
Friday night they spoke to the pages about this letting them know they'll help protect them.

A few days before Shimkus reads the kids the riot act about proper behavior. That just :grr: me off!

4. I'm torn -- I can both agree and disagree with you.
I figured the "riot act" was something that was given to each class of pages as they report (which I assume is close to the start of the school year). The usual, "this is a privilege, be respectful, tuck your shirt in" kind of thing.

Then I remembered that Shimkus knew years ago. If it had been nearly anyone else "reading the riot act" to the pages I would say you misinterpreted, but since it's Shimkus, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
