I'm beginning to think Woodward's las two books...
.. was him playing "mole".

Get close. Get inside. Play nice. Look like a friend.

WHAM! Down comes the hammer...

It's the only thing I can think of for such a sudden 'shift'... maybe it wasn't a shift at all.

11. Woodward definitely has "finger to the wind" syndrome
It's a side effect of "need to whore myself constantly" disease.

4. Nope - his job is to point blame AWAY from Bushes and onto others.
He shifted blame in first books onto Tenet, and now onto Rumsfeld.

Bush comes off as the innocent bystander to all the intrigue. which we all know is utter bullshit.

Woodward has banked alot of his credibility with the Bush family over the years and he is afraid of losing everything, so now he's imparting just enough truth to keep his account from going into arrears.

5. Some say Woodward was/is a creature of the intelligence world.
Could he be serving another role other than what we see (journalist under Nixon; autobiographer under Bush)? Even though he did do real puff pieces on the 1st 2 installments, I have no idea why Rove would allow an outsider like Woodward to be privvy to the Inner Sanctum in the 1st place. Why not a real cheerleader like David Brooks, Morton Kondracke, Jonas Goldberg, Billy Kristol, or Fred Barnes? Someone with syncophantic skills? Big mistake by Rove, in retrospect.

13. Woodward is from the ultimate CIA newspaper: the WA Post
And I can't trust someone who does such a sudden 180 (exception being Huffington).

CIA mole. We need another Church Commission.

7. I think it’s a conspiracy...
I think this book by Woodward will turn out to be yet another piece of propaganda doled out by the Bush administration.

Bush endorsed Woodward’s last book, it depicted the administration of being strong and confident. The book made Woodward million$.

Now Woodward’s new book makes it look like our country is led by buffoons. I think this White House would rather us believe they’re incompetent; it takes our minds off the fact that they’re criminals.

That’s just my opinion.

9. No, he drank the koolaid and then .....
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 03:59 PM by nomaco-10
when the winds changed, he decided to rehabilitate himself by pandering to the majority opinion of the most unpopular admin in decades, so as not to lose future book sale profits.

Woodward is a self serving, egomaniac that could not stand being marginalized by the ever growing unpopular opinion over the war and this admin.

I wouldn't be surprised if he also has some grandiose notion that only he, single handedly can bring this "dysfunctional" admin down. You know, he did that once before and gained a staggering amount of notoriety, as well as an enormous amount of money from books sales and a movie deal.

Was that just him pretending to be BFF? I will never forgive him for that, he tarnished an amazing reputation by playing Bitch for BushCo.

12. No, he waited a year to get his book.....
written, thinking it would have the same impact as All the President's Men.
It didn't occur to him that he could have written articles for his own paper, The WP, in a timely and important manner to shed light on many issues raised in the book that were very important for the American public to know at the time he learned them, but then he couldn't make a gazillion dollars on his book.
