Homeland Aide Faces Cyber-Sex Charges
On Unpaid Leave After Charges Of Cyber-Seducing Cop Posing As Girl

ROCKVILLE, Md., April 5, 2006

(CBS/AP) A spokesman for the Homeland Security Department was put on unpaid leave Wednesday after being charged with preying on a child through online sexual conversations with an undercover detective who was posing as a 14-year-old girl.

Homeland Security officials said Brian J. Doyle, the fourth-ranking spokesman at the department, was put on "non-pay status" following the charges late Tuesday. Doyle, 55, was expected to appear in court Wednesday afternoon in suburban Maryland, where he lives.

1. Remember Ed Schrock?
He's a repuke from VA who ran as a rabid anti-gay, pro-family values candidate. Then, wouldn't you know it, he got popped for soliciting gay sex from just about everyone in the Commonwealth.

2. From Sept 20 Tampa Trib
Deal Made In Cybersolicitation Case

Brian J. Doyle]'s attorney, Barry Helfand, said he plans to present testimony from psychiatrists, friends and family during the sentencing hearing to try to spare Doyle any prison time.

Authorities say Doyle sent explicit messages and movie clips to the detective, who led Doyle to think he was corresponding with a 14-year-old girl. They say Doyle bragged about his position at Homeland Security during the exchanges with the detective.

Doyle's depression briefly became an issue in the 10-minute plea hearing before , with the judge asking Doyle whether his medication was affecting his judgment.
