oprah has business guy (his) talking about epidemics
getting people to buy everything ahead
she and everyone needs to remember this is his business - fear is a great motivator and controller
when your dead you dead - we are all going sooner or later
and no amount of preparation can totally prevent

those in katrina - poor left behind - those who had food and water - they left it behind in their drown house to go sit on a highway or in a dome filled with lack of supplies - lack intentionally denied -

this type of hype is not good

still part of big business running the world
capitalism is a failure - corporation have no soul and are immoral

everyone out for themself and no longer look out for everyone

well this would take care of Social security and pension problems

2. Agree/disagree
A corporation has no soul to lose, it's a social structure plain and simple. It's the people running the corporations that lose their way. If their only goal is to make as much money as possible, then that's what they do.

4. Then it makes no sense
for corporations to have "person" status. But they do.

7. legally they are not a person - they are protected by laws
CEOs are tied to shareholders - regular people - drive for making the most money

when exxon executive wanted to do the RIGHT thing after the oil spill on west coast many years ago - he had to re track his statements the next day - and was let go - stockholders cheer when people are laid off - stocks go up

no corporations are not people and do not have to stand trail for evils done - it just goes bankrupt or out of business and the heads of corporations are immune to damages done

9. Correct in word and law...
but loses some spirit. We could talk about the exact definition of a corporation, how it's considered a legal entity, the rights, and responsibilities, the benefits and shortcoming of it's business model, but...
that's not the issue. People control corporations, not the other way around. It's the disconnect between decision, and action, and results that allow people to think of themselves as innocence or powerless. Did you know that Japanese CEO's make only 1/5 of what American CEO's do?

5. here is link to story
http://www2.oprah.com/tows/slide/200601/20060124/slide_20060124_284_103.jhtml

Dr. Osterholm says there are a few troubling aspects to bird flu.

Regular flu shots do not work to prevent transmission of bird flu. "Influenza viruses are unique," he says. "We talk about this H5N1, the bird virus. 'H' and 'N' just stand for parts of the virus. Every year we tell people to get a flu shot because of the mutation problem. This indiscreet, sloppy reproduction changes enough from year to year that we actually need to get a new flu shot every year, unlike other viruses like measles that do not mutate nearly as much."

One year of working to create a bird flu vaccine would only yield enough for about 300 million people: less than 5 percent of the world's population.
