Backdoor Alert: "Ike" to deploy in first war on terror assignment
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 07:38 PM by Texas Explorer
This is one to watch as the aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower deploys tomorrow from Norfolk, Virginia, along with its armada of warships, ostensibly to "relieve" the USS Enterprise

USS Eisenhower to deploy in first war on terror assignment

-snip-

Making up USS Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group are Carrier Air Wing 7, embarked Destroyer Squadron 28, guided-missile cruiser USS Anzio, guided-missile destroyers USS Ramage and USS Mason, and the fast attack submarine USS Newport News.

They’ll replace USS Enterprise in the Persian Gulf region.

Of course, this major carrier battle group deployment has not gotten any play on the MSM.

Godspeed ye brave sailors of the USS Eisenhower Carrier Battle Group! Salute!

1. I spent three and a half years on that ship.
Two Med cruises and a Persian Excursion.

We were in Italy when Saddam invaded Kuwait -- 2 days later we were headed through the Suez Canal into the Red Sea.

Good luck to the men and women aboard Ike. (or the Iketraz, as we called her.)

operation.

Do you know that this deployment is not even on the front page of the area's newspapers? I had to literally dig into their area media sources to find a story about it. I used to live in Newport News, half my life in fact, and usually it's a HUGE deal when a carrier group is deploying.

I even called the Virginian Pilot and a local TV station and got the brush-off.

This deployment is being squelched.
