1936: J Edgar Hoover and Congressional pages

I collect old school/class photographs and happened to remember today that I had this one. It's the original print with a typed caption on the back.

As you can see, J. Edgar Hoover figures prominently and paternalistically behind the young pages. Just thought we should put this page scandal in a wider historical perspective. Am I wrong to find it just as unsettling to see Hoover fraternizing with these boys as it is to hear of Foley's emails? I am beginning to wonder how many years young pages have been being targetted by older males in positions of power in DC. This photograph I have takes on a slightly more sinister edge given recent events. And of course, we all know that Hoover was just being friendly here, right?

Notice how young the boys look.

4. I'm not accusing him of anything other than being "friendly"
I really only posted the photograpgh because I remembered I had it. I understood that Hoover had unusual sexual fetishes. Why are these kind of men always in contact with young pages and interns? I certainly don't think the behavior is limited to boys. That just seems to be the most recent permutation.

Please don't take offense where none was really meant.

I think the whole damn bunch of them whatever their various sexual orientation are largely perverts, hypocrites and scumbags. With a few decent Democrats here and there. I wouldn't trust a politician to stand in the same room alone with my son or daughter. Disgusting people.

That includes the farter in the WH.

6. Oh, Jeebus H. Christ, people, not all touch is sexual in nature. Get a
grip.

If my daughter's coach puts his arm on my daughter's shoulder when he's talking to her before she goes up to bat, is he being a perv???? Or if a female coach does the same thing, is she a "lesbo perv"??? NO, NO, NO.

Just because a small percentage of people ARE pervs, does not mean that there is no such thing as friendly innocent touch.

SHEESH.

No wonder so many good people are afraid to work with children.

His touch on anyone's shoulder would be creepy. I just think he's as scary as Freddy from "Nightmare on Elm Street."

And no, I don't think an adult couch should touch my kids.

I used to have a music teacher who felt up the girls rubbing his hand up and down our backs as he directed us to play. It was a very nasty experience. And like most kids, none of us trusted adults enough to tell. Most of us just quit the music class.

8. Hoover
Hoover was a bigot, a cross dresser, and probably a homosexual, but a pedophile I don't think so.

Hoover did a lot of good work under Kennedy, before JFK was shot.
