Holy Shit! Frist wants the TALIBAN back?
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 09:17 PM by LuckyTheDog
This is a TRUE WTF moment!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061002/ap_on_re_as/afghanistan_frist_1

QALAT, Afghanistan - U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Monday that the Afghan war against Taliban guerrillas can never be won militarily and called for efforts to bring the Islamic militia and its supporters into the Afghan government.

The Tennessee Republican said he learned from briefings that Taliban fighters were too numerous and had too much popular support to be defeated on the battlefield.

"You need to bring them into a more transparent type of government," Frist said during a brief visit to a U.S. and Romanian military base in the southern Taliban stronghold of Qalat. "And if that's accomplished, we'll be successful."

That sure should make all of those Tennessee families who lost their kids in Afghanistan right proud of their senator.

7. This is an honest policy. You see Frist is done in Congress...
and actually wants to do good. This is actually the kind of thing that could really kill off the Afghanistan insurgency. Don't let politics get in the way of a proposal that could save hundreds of NATO troops from losing their lives. It might be a good step in the right direction, because while they were repressive they merely hid al-Qaeda. Frist took a hit on this, but just like the minority health plan he is doing something good to cover up all the bad shit has done as majority leader in the senate.

With all due respect to you personally... fuck that. The Taliban harbored the terrorists who actually attacked us. I want them dead. I want us out of Iraq and I want the Taliban dead.

16. Bully for the Pashtun who want religious extremists in their country
Before you start it is THEIR country and if they want religious rapist murdering extremists to run the show in their country that's fine. Screw everyone else who is not Taliban that suffered under their rule I suppose ::sarcasm::

However, the point of this outrage (which I am sure you got..at least I hope you got it) was the notion that Republicans are completely cutting and running in their bullshit war on terror and this statement from Frist WITHOUT A DOUBT shows proof to us all that rooting out murderous forms of extremism was never an agenda and hopefully John Q public will understand this as we all have from the very beginning.

Maybe just maybe if we had been giving better assistance to the Northern Alliance especially after Massoud wrote Dick Cheney in 2000 requesting help....

12. Frist actually has a sane idea.
Even though the Taliban have repressive ideas of how Islam should be interpreted shouldn't it be up to the Afghan people how they wish to be represented? If the Taliban were brought into the Afghan Govt. perhaps the violence against the Occupation there and their own people would be greatly minimized. Maybe the Afghans would reject the extremist notions of the Taliban and vote for a more moderate Islam in their country. It is their country, not ours.

21. The Taliban gave up their right to govern
The Taliban gave up their right to govern when they aided OBL and refused to turn him over after 9/11. Let's not confuse the war in Afghanistan with the idiotic adventure in Iraq. The Taliban really are our enemy, IMO.

11. Why get Frist to drop this huge stinkball?
Is the timing -- sure to get lost in the Foley mess -- deliberate?

Anyway, didn't we help them get into power in the first place?

Isn't the Taliban a smaller group than al Qaeda and all of its offshoots? If the Taliban is unbeatable then...
