Poll question: Would a Hastert resignation be good or bad for Democrats in '06?
I'm not sure, but I think it might be better if he stayed on. It would be easier to attack (read: tell the truth about) them on the corruption angle. We'd be able to say that even in the face of all this evidence, they're so arrogant that they refuse to leave.

Also, what would the Repub leadership be if Hastert left?

3. Good - Because The Rethugs Are In Utter Disarray
Even if, by some chance, Hastert's replacement was someone who sucked less - there would not be time to do anything but to hose down the flaming turds. And that steam's gonna smell real bad.

4. On top of everything else, that would be a huge black eye
Not as big as Nixon resigning a few months before the '74 elections but pretty huge.

Good for the country AND good for us.

5. Keep this fact in mind:

Igor here, as Shrieker of the House, is third in the line of succession for the presidency. So if the Chimperor chokes on a pretzel and Darth Cheney shorts out his motherboard, we get the hunka burnin' love on the left:

So his resignation would be a very good thing, even though his successor would certainly be a useless putz because that's what they all are.

6. Washington Times calls for Hastert to resign!
WASHINGTON TIMES ON TUESDAY WILL CALL FOR SPEAKER HASTERT'S RESIGNATION, NEWSROOM SOURCES TELL DRUDGE... DEVELOPING... Editorial titled: 'Resign, Mr. Speaker': 'House Speaker Dennis Hastert must do the only right thing, and resign his speakership at once... Mr. Hastert has forfeited the confidence of the public and his party, and he cannot preside over the necessary coming investigation, an investigation that must examine his own inept performance'... -- Washington Times, October 3, 2006...

7. Either is good.
The best thing for the country is for him to resign, but losing his election will do.
