Just saw the Tom Reynolds press conference in Buffalo on C-SPAN. What a disaster for him! He just stood up there for too long a time and allowed himself to get peppered and give the same lame answer to the main question:
If he knew about the "overly friendly" e-mails and was concerned enough to tell Speaker Hastert, why didn't he follow up and ask Hastert what happened, as Foley was back out on the floor, working with the pages every day. Reynolds just kept going back to what his handlers told him to say: that like a good employee, he went to his supervisor with the complaint and after that it was no longer his job. But the reporters kept insisting that he was one of the top 8 GOP leaders and he did nothing further--except taking a $100,000 check from Foley a couple months after learning that he was a child predator.
Then Reynolds flat out lied when he said Shimkus had the Page Board look into it and they concluded that no aciton should be taken as the parents did not want to press the matter.
That is a lie--made up of whole cloth--an attempt to get out of losing on November 7th.
Because what really happened was that Shimkus NEVER TOLD THE PAGE BOARD SQUAT. That's right, Shimkus never told the Democrat Kildee OR EVEN THE REPUBLICAN Capito. Hey, she was a woman, guess the good ole boys couldn't trust her to protect a child predator for mere political gain and let him near the pages again.
No, she might have a maternal instinct or something like a conscience. Capito is very angry at the GOP leadership right now.
Finally, when a reporter asked Reynolds if accepting the $100,000 from Foley after hearing of the e-mails to the 16 year-old was in effect protecting him so Reynolds could get that hundred grand for his NRCC, Reynolds gave a stupid answer--to the effect that $100,000 is a pittance when you compare it to the $70 million he will raise for the NRCC. So no, the $100,000 was chump change--he wouldn't protect a child predator for that kind of money! When you put these Republicans under the gun they start sweating and giving such dumb answers.
After that he said just a couple more--and then took a further barrage of another dozen questions.
On top of that, Reynolds the whole time confused the early e-mails from the later graphic IMs--which he figured was all the defense he needed--BUT HE KEPT CALLING THE LATER INSTANT MESSAGES "E-MAILS", WHICH WOULD ONLY TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY CONFUSE THE LINE HE WAS TRYING TO DE-BLUR.
Probably he doesn't even know the difference between an e-mail and an instant message, that's why he can't keep it straight.
Total disaster--Catch the re-run or go to C-SPAN.org to see it.
PLEASE RECOMMEND THIS TO BRING REYNOLD'S LIE OUT INTO THE OPEN! 1 MORE SEAT!
