An Elk Grove man has been arrested on suspicion of mailing hoax anthrax letters threatening President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and others, the FBI said Monday.
Officials said Michael Lee Braun, 51, was taken into custody Friday night by members of Sacramento Joint Terrorism Task Force after warrants were served at this home and his place of employment at Sacramento Municipal Utility District's Rancho Seco facility in Herald.

Authorities said the charges stemmed from two threatening letters Braun is alleged to have mailed on Sept. 28. The letters contained an unknown white, powdery substance.
The letters were addressed to the Serrano Visitors Center and Serrano Country Club in El Dorado Hills and contained threats against Bush, Cheney and Rep. John Doolittle (news, bio, voting record), R-Rocklin. Bush is scheduled to speak Tuesday at Serrano on behalf of Doolittle.
The FBI said Braun is suspected in the mailing of more than 45 similar hoax letters since 2001. Letters were also mailed to media outlets, including radio personalities and newspapers. The FBI said the majority of these letters contained an unknown, white, powdery substance.
