Poll question: If you were assaulted sexually before grad H.S, told, did you get help? |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 11:19 PM by uppityperson
If you were sexually assaulted or abused before graduating highschool, AND you told an adult who potentially could help, did they believe you? Did they help? Or did they not? Edited to add if you want to PM me anything, I'll copy/paste anonymously. This stems from my poll asking if you were assaulted/abused and told or not. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=2292034&mesg_id=2292034

4. I would have told, but... |
|
It was an abusive boyfriend, in the mid 1980s in Arizona. Not much I could have said without getting in a lot more trouble from the people who were supposed to be protecting me.

8. Talking about it to family - friends - peer pressure issues |
|
embarassment, not even knowing it was illegal, alcohol, drugs (HS, remember).............. Try a poll asking how many were assaulted in HS or earlier.
The results will likely shock you given the poll you posted and the limited responses.
PS - they have been done here before.

My parents did nothing,on hearing of the molestations. What's worse is my father asked my mother what was wrong with me when my mom told him aboutr it,I overheard this conversation and I cried in my room. When my father assaulted me a few years later I called the local Sheriff this was before 911 system.. They said for me to calm down and drink some warm milk and go back to bed. They blew me off . In school when bullies would attack teachers more often than not looked away.
So,No I got no help facing this stuff.. In fact I was basically abandoned when my father assaulted me ,left by my sisters who had dates,my aunt went out on a date rather than pick me up as my mother in the hospital at the time requested her to do so I would not be alone in the house with my drunk crazy father...And I had no help afterwards. Until the traumas began to make me a pain in the ass to deal with with symptoms than I got"help". I got put in the loon bin and tortured there. I got no help.So I am angry. And I hate perps and I am pissed at enablers, I am disgusted with bystanders..And for the most part ,I feel so alone, I feel so tired, I do not trust easy.Because there are so many assholes in this world. I just hope death takes me outta here sooner rather than later.

Why do you presume a molested child would tell someone?
Just as well, such a thing could be not told to anyone.

15. I do not presume, I am asking since sometimes molested children do tell |
|
Sometimes we don't tell. Sometimes some do tell. Sometimes the person they told helps them, sometimes not.

11. At the age of 14, it was happening *IN* class |
|
At the age of 14, it was happening constantly *DURING* class, by one boy in one of my classes. I never told anyone about it at the time because a) I was embarrassed by it and b) I didn't know that he could have gotten in serious trouble if I had reported him (and if actions were taken against him) and c) side from being a creep he would also issue veiled threats to me. Being a stupid 14 year old, I just figured I had to put up with it for the remainder of the semester and I promised myself that if I was ever put into a class with that pervert again, I'd transfer out of it immediately (I never was in a class with him again). I really regret not telling someone back then...

12. Yes, on the assault. No, on the telling. |
|
I was sexually assaulted verbally by the psychiatrist my mom made me see to "fix me" after she dragged me out of the closet. I was 16 years old. I finally told her when I was 21. She's not particularly remorseful or concerned about the whole thing. Oddly enough, if I speak ill of any other guy I knew from around that time, she asks me if I was raped. So basically, the guy that actually did sexually abuse me (though not physically) she isn't that concerned about, but if I call some random HS jackass a jackass, she thinks he raped me. :wtf:
The man is presumably out there still working as a licensed pyschiatrist.

13. I told my father...and he did help me |
|
I was a child of about 9, and a girl friend's father took the both of us to the park, we played and when it was time to go, he didnt leave right away...He took out a magazine of porn and showed it to both of us.
I felt so uncomfortable, I knew those pictures were something I should not have seen. I told my father about it.
My father pressed charges and the man admitted to the crime and was sentenced.
Explicit words or pictures shown to a minor is against the law. I KNOW.

I was 12 years old and scared to death that my parents would blame ME for what happened. I was not the most well-behaved kid, and back then, girls who were raped deserved it, according to society. I still haven't told my family, and probably never will, since it's ancient history now. I did tell a few friends, but that was years after the fact.

18. I offer my wishes for peace for all who experienced this. |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 11:16 AM by uppityperson
hugs are offered (I've been advised by an abused friend to never hug her without asking first) and strong wishes for peace. Thank you or sharing. I don't care how uppity of a child you were, no child deserves abuse/assault. None. Part of maturing is growing from being a self involved egotistic baby to a mature adult that can control their actions. It is their fault, not the child's.
