Leahy: *Reid will make filibuster decision*
Edited on Tue Jan-24-06 05:21 PM by sparosnare
I just heard him say it on the Ed Schultz show. Leahy was asked about the filibuster and he said Reid will make the final decision; that he hasn't decided one way or the other.

Please filibuster Alito. Others have been trying to tell you otherwise because they know how important it is for Republicans to get this man into the Supreme Court for life. They know he will not challenge Presidential Powers. He will let any president be the sole power of government by giving up the checks and balances of our government. The constitution is invalid in this current president's eyes and Alito will not challenge him on that.

Alito will not uphold the constitution over the president's word and that would be the end of democracy in the US.

Please fight for those who voted for you, not those who wouldn't vote for you anyway.

Trying to appease the so-called "swing voters" only discourages those who will vote for you and doesn't give people who don't normally vote a reason to vote for you.

If you excite your base and give the others a REASON TO VOTE FOR YOU, you will not only uphold democratic principles and help the country, but will ensure your place in the US Senate.

12. Thanks for posting the contact info. I justed called
his D.C. office - spoke to a staffer. Told him I was tired of the Dems acting like a battered spouse and hoped that we would "finally fight back and do something for a change". Staffer said he would let him (Reid)know - staffer also sounded tired and bored.

20. Here's what I wrote:
Dear Senator Reid,

I'm writing to urge you to filibuster the nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. As a child of the 1960s, when men like Thurgood Marshall were chosen as Supreme Court Justices, I have watched with dismay as recent Supreme Court appointiess have turned it into a rubber stamp for Republican administrations to subvert the U.S. constitution. Alito is no different. His blatant disregard for the privacy of American citizens and his beliefs that the system of checks and balances is some hackneyed invention of the 18th century are a matter of public record.

I am the daughter of a history professor and I learned early on what James Madison and others framers of U.S. Constitution did to create one of the best systems of government in world history. Please don't let Bush and the Republicans make a mockery of what so many people people have worked for and died for since 1791 (and earlier if you count those who fought in the Revolutionary War).

Best regards,
Forsyth Alexander
Member of the Democratic Party since 1978

8. Call Reid's office now - AGAIN, if necessary. Senators have said they will
support a filibuster already, Reid won't be out on a limb. He has nothing to lose.

26. I want them to use the nuke option.
Leahy also had this to say - he's not worried about the nuke option and possible rules change because those in power now don't follow the rules anyway. He sounded fed up.

32. He ain't as fed up as you and I.
And I do like his sentiment. I get the feeling that our senators finally realize what we've known for four years - these criminals do not have any respect for their office or for the people.

So far he hasn't disappointed (except with a vote) so I hope he doesn't this time. I'm really praying for sure.

30. What is quorum in the senate?
Can dems filibuster until it appears that the nuclear option will be invoked, then walk out so as to shut everything down? If no quorum, then no senate action.

No filibuster, no Alito vote...nada, until a deal is made and dem senators come back.

If the pugs play rough, why do the dems just have to sit there and watch it happen? They should play rough too and shut it all down!

all dems need to be absent, plus a few republican senators for the senate to be incapacitated?

especially with the cameras rolling. Above all, the Thuggery has to maintain the appearance of consent.
