Critique this campaign website: Louisiana Predatorgate R's Democratic
challenger, Gloria Hearn, did not have a website link for the campaign resource http://www.thegreenpapers.com/G06/LA.phtml last week.

Now she has one, and IMO it's not good. One thing she did right was to get her priorities straight for the main page. There's a DONATE link you can't miss at http://www.hearnforcongress.com .

But the rest of the site IMO needs a lot of improvement. This is a shame, because Hearn is the Democratic challenger to Rodney Alexander (R-LA05). It was Alexander's House Page who blew the whistle on Mark Foley to Brian Ross of ABC World News. Among all members of Congress, Alexander may have had the most knowledge about the Foley problem, and he did not do very much to stop Foley. He may be vulnerable, even to a weak challenger like Hearn.

Do you remember a coffee-table book a couple of years ago called, "Webpages that Suck"?

Well, IMO, http://www.hearnforcongress.com is one of them.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

2. You seem to know alot about this. Why don't you volunteer to...
...do a better one for her?

3. It's OK

and fairly standard for a candidate from a poor state.

If you read "Web Pages That Suck," you'd have seen ones that really, really suck, pages with purple cursive script against a black background, or (my pet peeve) so much kitschy animation that you can't read anything on the page.

I'll admit the Dems ought to be all over this scandal, but I'm not sure a web page is the appropriate place to do it.

9. Other than prominent
"donate here" and "volunteer here" buttons, I wouldn't change a thing. She's got a brief mission statement on the front with links to the full platform. The page does what it needs to.

4. Welll...
Hate to say it, but, although I did not follow any links off her page, I really like it! Straightforward, uncluttered, not difficult to locate any details, not overly gaudy, no flashing bs, and one of the most important things, good contrast.

Wanna see a really bad page-see bradblog.
Dark backgrounds, multicolors, etc are all not good, especially for readers of more advanced years.

I like nice, simple, light colored backgrounds with dark contrasty lettering and none of the geeky, hi-tech look; give me the message with a minimum of artistic baggage.

5. What about the CONTENT?
Do you think this website can ignite a local media feeding frenzy that will cause thens of thousands to demand Alexander's resignation?

The form may be fine, but what about the content? I see a very rambling, unfocused personal statement on the "About" page, for example.

Can Gloria Hearn WIN with this stuff?

10. Well, I don't really know what wins or loses campaigns.
I have always been rather simple on my presentation to others, kind of "here I am, this is what I think, this is what I live by, and this is what plan to do."

Maybe that is why I've never been terribly interested in politics, per se, and have been driven to become active because of the nasty way the idiots in charge have messed up our country.

I think democrats are superior to republicans but find plenty to criticize in both camps.

I found the content adequate to cover the questions I have and anything further I would take the time to find out. Wish I could be of further assistance.

6. Alexander WAS a democrat who flipped to R about two years ago
shortly before his last election.

He was a RWer anyway, so wtf.

Hearn has about 15 cents in her entire campaign war chest and the fact that she has a website at all is amazing.

7. The right side of the text is clipped
on the first page. Overall look is not bad. A bit dark, especially the red. Would have liked more of a flag red and white border.
