Can someone find out why they can vote for Foley and it go to Joe Negran.
I just read this today. Why is this legal? Why do they not have to write Joe Negan's name in?

The Florida Republican party has named state representative Joe Negron, a 45-year-old lawyer as their candidate in FL-16. Although this district is heavily Republican, Florida law makes it impossible to replace Foley's name on the ballot so close to the election, so Negron will have to tell the voters to vote for Foley. While a vote for Foley is actually a vote for Negron, many voters may not realize this and not vote for Foley out of disgust with his behavior.

1. It's the law. This was discussed yesterday on NPR...
They discussed that the name cannot be removed from the ballot after the primary, but if the candidate is replaced, any vote for the now absent candidate (Foley) will automatically go to his replacement.

There is not much choice -- the absentee ballots have been mailed, and some have been returned.

3. Florida election statute says:
Here's what the Florida election statute says:

(4)(a) In the event that death, resignation, withdrawal, removal, or any other cause or event should cause a party to have a vacancy in nomination which leaves no candidate for an office from such party, the Department of State shall notify the chair of the appropriate state, district, or county political party executive committee of such party; and, within 5 days, the chair shall call a meeting of his or her executive committee to consider designation of a nominee to fill the vacancy. The name of any person so designated shall be submitted to the Department of State within 7 days after notice to the chair in order that the person designated may have his or her name on the ballot of the ensuing general election. If the name of the new nominee is submitted after the certification of results of the preceding primary election, however, the ballots shall not be changed and the former party nominee's name will appear on the ballot. Any ballots cast for the former party nominee will be counted for the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee. If there is no opposition to the party nominee, the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee will be elected to office at the general election. For purposes of this paragraph, the term "district political party executive committee" means the members of the state executive committee of a political party from those counties comprising the area involving a district office....

4. So, this is a problem, WHY?
You are very concerned that voters may not vote for Negron because they would have to literally vote for Foley? You support Negron?

It is FLorida law. Why is it Florida Law? Well, I guess you could call Tom Feeney and that bunch of Repugnant cronies who have held the statehouses for so long and inquire... They enacted the law, after aLL...

5. I'm not worried about their not voting for Foley...
I'm worried about voters voting for Foley simply because he's their good old boy republican and he's better than a democrat in their simplified minds.

Don't you hope they don't vote for Foley???

7. If they're going to vote for Foley
because he is their good old boy repunk they would do the same for the new guy - so to me for these types it doesn't matter whose name is on the ballot - but for those others who are disgusted by Foley's behavior his name being on the ballot is a good thing because these folks won't want to vote for Foley under any circumstance....

6. I think it's hilarious...
In order to vote for Negron, you have to pull the "Child Molester" lever.

Is it wrong for me to rejoice and be exceedingly glad at that?
