I came to realize, if Hastert knew about it AND was making decisions on who became a Page...he was basically leading lambs to the slaughter.

1. Good one. Sadly accurate.

I feel badly for those kids. If they'd risen to this level of achievement - that they'd qualify for the Congressional Page program, chances are that they'd be more serious in attitude, and wouldn't necessarily be there to provide fodder for some lecherous, predatory pedophile - OR to lead one on. And we ALL know - AND HAVE WITNESSED - the phenomenon on Capitol Hill of being cowed or intimidated into silence, don't we? I mean - grown men and women fell victim to that syndrome, so why is it beyond belief that impressionable, trusting 16-year-olds (who believe they're really there to learn about their government and serve their country) wouldn't fall into that trap, too? I doubt many of these kids were snarky snot-noses or troublemakers. You have to be recommended for participation in a venue like the Congressional Page program. So you have to be pretty damned clean to get into it.

3. And think, people at one time entrusted him with their sons as a

teacher of sports. Not one of these media outlets who cover this has once mentioned that Hastert was a TEACHER and should have known better. He WORKED in the SCHOOLS, for God's sake. You teachers out there, jump in and tell us about the training a teacher gets on appropriate behavior and warning signs. It's not something new to the educational system, and in schools, coaches are part of the faculty. At best, it is a sign of incompetence and poor judgement, and at worst, it is a commentary on his own lack of a moral compass.
